Well, for the above answer from HP G, Ben Franklin wanted a turkey to be our national bird, not a duck...As for the eagle being a scavenger, it can't get that big, eating berries. Could you imagine having a turkey as the national bird? In some cases, it probably would have fit us better...

ya i knew that i live in Alaska and they are every where up here. oh and BTW Ben Franklin nominated the turkey to be the national bird not the duck. Turkeys are ugly but vey smart, the eagle was probably chosen because they are so beautiful and majestic. And they will hunt and kill food such as fish, rabbits, and other small game even poodles , seen it happen.

the bald eagle is also called a fish eagle.they do scavenge just becoz its easy meat.most birds of prey will do this but essentially its a hunter 1st.be proud of it.its a beautiful bird.
