Thanks for posting this question. As a Liberal I really find the challenging questions and name calling so mentally stimulating! Please keep posting these type of questions, I find together we are truly solving the issues that face us today as a nation. It's good to know I can still count on some things to never change!

Answerman is ignorant. Liberals want to think and make decisions for everyone else instead of taking personal responsibility for themselves. Example Anita Hooker, trans... (something), orgasming his schizophrenic views all over Yahoo Answers as if he is some moral example representing a group of people. The only thing this ingrate is representing is a set of balls in women's panties. Degenerate. If the liberals had it there way the government would be paying for sex change operations, AIDS medications, and Plan B.
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!
Hell yeah being called a liberal is an insult. That's why they hijacked the Democratic party. gay rights, transgender equal opportunity, send billiions to fight AIDS in Africa, femonist rights groops, NAACP. Hell, why are these people bashing Bush when in other countries gays are openly killed, women can't even go outside without covering their face, and what about Rice, Brown, and Powell? And these ignorant liberals want to take over? Please. That's why they were defeated in the 2004 election by the likes of Bush.

Among the talk radio crowd (the "Dittoheads"), "liberal" is still a terrible insult. They fling it around indiscriminantly, labeling anything they don't like "liberal" even when it clearly is not (e.g., Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party establishment, etc.).
Out here in the reality-based community the term is still one reflecting patriotism and decency - having enough concern for the United States that one is willing to sacrifice for the country. You won't see that among the anti-American right wing talk radio crowd.

I agree with what's been said. "Liberal" will be an insult so long as politicians run from the label.
I remember in the '04 election Kerry actually saying at one point that he was the candidate of conservative values! What a complete abdication of all values to the conservatives. However, there are groups working to change this.
But just as other groups have reclaimed terms used as pejoratives, so can liberals, simply by proudly claiming the word. And it doesn't hurt that conservatives are undermining their own name with their fundamentalism.

When it is said by a conservative, it is supposed to be an insult. However, I find it a compliment. The base of the word "liber" is Latin for freedom. So, if I am a liberal, that means I am for freedom. I don't get why this word ever got considered an insult.

I'm social liberal, when it comes to economy you can't trust either party. NEOCONS are just as much tax and spend as any other. Who said, NO NEW TAXES? Oh, Republican, right? Who said I am a uniter, not divider? Oh, Republican, right? Who said Iraq had WMD's and lied so people could die for oil? Oh, Republicans, right? Nothing wrong with being a Liberal, just Republicans are so good at lies you could be called Mother Theresa and they could turn you into the devil. Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity hate themselves, how could they like someone that disagrees with them? Radical Right Wing whack jobs or Bible Thumping moral police will be out of office SOON!!!

It is not a insult to me, I wear my liberalism proudly, it just means that I am able to think for myself and am able to make better decisions then most if not all conservatives.

I want you to think of the most grievous insult that you can. Whatever it is. Be it a racial slur or an ethnic epithet...whatever would make you feel demeaned and put down. What insult would make you feel small and unwanted. What insult would make you feel weak an impotent. What insult would demoralize you and just ruin your day.
When I refer to someone as a "Liberal", that is how I mean it and that is how I hope they take the insult.
