Okay...tell me what you think. I have a little brown transformer that plugs in the wall in my house for an alarm. This trans gets really hot to touch. I have keys hanging above it, not directly above it...a little to the right and they DO NOT touch the tansformer at all. I got up yesterday morning...they keys were hanging untouched all night...and when I went to put my car key in the ignition, it was bent (looped), alot!! Almost in an L shape. Could the hot transformer bend my key???? I mean it is a thick long key (car key). Not touching anything hot. Is that possible??? Tell me what you think? Was it the hot transformer or do you think something else, but what? Please solve my mystery!

I really doubt that the heat from a transformer could have bent that key....

It does not sound likely but it is possible that some sort of induction took place between the key and your transformer (they would have to be close), in other words your key acted as part of the transformer and induction took place within your keys causing them to heat to the point where they would melt, but this heating could cause a fire and your keys would be hot to handle as well, unless the transformer broke down before you handled them. I would think it is about 5% possible.

Yes, the metal in the keys could be heated enough to bend under stress. But I would be more concerned about the transformer -- it shouldn't be hot.

Someone's pulling your chain. Maybe they're trying to tell you to get the alarm transformer fixed/replaced. A "really hot to touch" transformer is too hot. Fix it, then you'll have a lifetime to ponder your mystery.

That depend on the alloy that key has been made of, because when we take about two diffrent netals attached together, it is enough to be heated softly and not to a hight temprature that will be enough to bend it easily. I hope you got what i mean

I don't think so. if it was the transformer, then it's a definate fire hazard! it takes a lot of heat to shape metal!

more likely someone bent the key for you.

Yes. Heat soften up the metal therefore when you turned the key in the ignitiion it bent.

I don't know if I really understood Your Q.
Put It seems that the key was heated to much then it fall suddenly toward the ground , by this shock it was bended, that is all from my mind.

heat waves travel. but i don't think that the heat from the transformer is hot enough to make your key bend.

maybe it got soft and something pressed on it
