You need to ovulate to get pregnant. This usally takes place anytime between day 11-18 of your cycle. (day 1 is the first day of your period) All women are different but this is where most women fall. You have 4-5 days a month to get pregnant (those days leading up to the day of ovulation. Sperm can live up to 72 hrs inside a women. For example. Say u have sex on days 11 and 13. Then u ovulate on day 15. U still can become pregnant from those two days of sexual relation. On day 15 your egg would have dropped and met the sperm, that was waiting for it from the previous days..

When she is ovulating! Which , technically, can be any time. Ovulation GENERALLY happens once every month, around mid-cycle but it is possible for a woman to ovulate at other, more random seeming times. Also, whilst the egg only lasts 24 hours, once released, during the leadup to ovulation, for approximately 3-5 days, the mucus in and around the vagina changes in quality, so that it can actually support the survival of sperm within the woman's body, for up to five(I think it's five? at leats three) days . ie: sp[erm can in fact be "deposited" and "wait"(not really, but sort of :P) until the egg is ready, and then fertilise it. It's freaky, but true!! For really accurate, informative info, look up "Billings Method of Family Planning". (It's Christian Family Planning based, but/and is very accurate biologically:)
.Essentially, if your hoping you can "count days" and avoid getting pregnant, the answer is decidedly "no".Millions of Catholics can attest to that:S. Hope that helps
