In the old days the Roman Emperors and senate did believe that they have the mandate from Heaven to monopolise truths and justice. Is history repeating itself ?

Dear ddey65:
If USSR still exist, my question would refer to USA & UK & USSR.
Do you know of the thousands of Vietnamese murdered by the communists because defeated USA discarded them upon leaving Vietnam.

Because the nations and organizations that you accuse us of "medding in their internal affairs" are the ones causing problems in the world. Therefore it's not other nations' "internal" affairs" that bring us to these countries, but their external affairs. It was Soviet and other communist meddling that brought us into Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Cuba, Central America, Grenada, and the Middle East during the cold war. The Domino Theory was proven to be correct after the Fall of Saigon, when red armies started going on killing sprees throughout the world, and 31 years later, the left still hasn't caught on, unlike the right, which learned it's lesson from the failures of it's isolationism in the 1930's. Today it's primarily Islamic fascism and other ideologies that sponsor terrorism that have lead us to Afghanistan, Iraq, and could lead us to Colombia.

Personally, if you look at the MAJOR US initiatives and even UK initiatives over the past 15 years, you would see that, basically, you could not have sinply branded their efforts as "meddling in others' affairs"!

It has been so small-minded as that.

Most of their work has been a case of setting a "people" free from an iron-grip of tyranny!!

The Taliban in Afghanistan, coupled with the need for US to try to defend itself against terrorist groups!
It was a double-bunger!

1991/2, in Iraq, the allied forces led by the States, went to defect Iraq from Kuwait; they did not 'meddle' in Iraq's internal affairs; but in fact, that was their Real chance; THEY SHOULD HAVE!!
They should have killed or ousted Hussein right there and then while they had the world on their side!

In 2003, the son went in to finish unfinished family business, and hopefully, to set his father's record straight!
So far, it's questionable whether he has achieved this.
Hussein and cronies had too long to prepare for a US return!
But, even here, Bush Jun. went in to free "the people" from tyrannical iron-fisted rule!
In this sense, he has certainly done that.
But none of us have really understood the culture there sufficiently to realize that this would all eventually lead to a civil war there! The US won't stop that happening.

This is the view of an Outsider.
I am Aussie!

Because they are strongish at the moment but don't worry the U.S. and U.K. will suffer the same fate as the Romans... that process has just begun, particularly with the U.S. - One of the reasons Rome declined was that their military was stretched too far throughout their empire - just like what's going on now with the U.S.

Always have always will, like you say.
It's a manifestation of pursuing and attempting to protect self-interest (in a very immature and narrow-minded way- it could be done better) and also mankind's urge to feel or think he is superior to others, and to segregate people into 'us' and 'them'. Mankind always loves power, too- so behind the guise of right or wrong (ideologically speaking, at least) it is easy to manipulate others in a way that many others will be blinded to, or agree with,or 'allow'. (because they tend have been infused with the same impulses when in that same environment)

Because people keep asking us too. Stop asking us for things. I'd rather they spent our tax dollars on internal issues.

Iraq meddled in Kuwait, USSR meddled in Finland, Poland etc. etc., Germany meddled in most of Europe (twice), so why always just blame the US/UK?
