Despite all the PR,claims, counterclaims etc, it appears to me Israel has got exactly what it wanted. That is a credible, workable international presence to secure a buffer zone in South Lebanon. Is this a reasonable conclusion?

The buffer zone will be made up largely of French and Italian soldiers, which seems very workable. However, I am not sure that the make-up of the Lebanese military will be workable, since many are sympathetic to Hezbollah and very likely members of that "organization." This is surely not in Israel's interest.

What is credible about troops not disarming terrorist or blocking weapons entering the country of Lebanon destined for Hezbollah?? Wise up. The UN should enforce resolution 1559 which passed and called for disarming Hezbollah. The only chance since then were the payments to countries and Kofi by Iran. Israel will have to defend itself again in the very near future and the UN peacekeepers will be caught in the middle again. Good luck with believing the UN.

haha u make me laugh. did u know that Israel had planned an attack on Lebanon, but the atta ck was early, it was suppose to be i n September, but they had an excuse to attack Lebanon, so they took the opportunity. in my opinion, Israel was unsuccessful, but Hezbollah was successful. Hezbollah had proved the Israels army is not an unbreakable army, and he has resisted them into entering Lebanon.
Do u think that Israel would,d admit that is has been unsuccessful??? in Ur question u said "Despite all the PR,claims, counterclaims etc" it much similar to say, even though i was passed the finish line last, and got tiered, and twisted my ankle, i won the race.

The larger context in being an American is are we getting what we need from Israel? Our relationship with them (assuming that you are American) for all indications appears to be a very lopsided one.
They could have helped to take a lot of the heat off of us by bringing the Palestinian state issue to a speedy resolution. But they continue as they have for many years to keep the people of Gaza and the west bank under humiliating subjugation that keeps us under constant attack for supporting Israel and their folly.
