I know a good website
http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/authors.html - this one is the richest website of free online books I know of.
then goes http://gutenberg.net.au/
and you were recommended www.gutenberg.org I know that there you can even download audio-books for free

And i know many more, but they have less books. You can find them all through yahoo search engine in the category "online libraries".
I hope that it helped.

E-books are a pain to read especially as you can't curl up with an ebook can you? You can't dog ear it or experience the crispness of an ink laden paper, or Gift it to a friend or pass it on simply by leaving it quietly in a coffee shop.

I don't know of a site where you can download a book that is still in print in its entirety for free, but you can read samples of the text of a book on this site: www.jbb7994.com
The site exists to promote the book.

Check out Baen's Books. Sign in and go to the e-book section or to Baen's Bar and pose real questions for authors' and they will answer. Or just go to the chat room and discuss books that you have read and get thoughtful responses back.
