Sony is the worst, despite its good looks, and brand name, should it break down outside warranty term ( as all laptops do ) , you will find that the only people that can effectively repair them are Sony themselves, as they do not sell parts !
More expensive Dell ones are decent.
Toshiba and Hitachi, have motherboard problems, across their range, they are OK.
IBM used to be fantastic, but not any more !
The Best is Fujitsu ones, they hardly break down, they do not have any known problems, and parts are available and cheap !

Now there's a question & a half for you!..That's like asking which is the best 1.8 litre car in the world to buy at the cheapest price which will last for ever. I'm sorry but it's an impossible question to answer. It's personal opinion & there will be hundreds of different personal opinions.
Also nothing lasts for ever...sad isn't it :)

There are lots of entry level models from Asus... and I heard it's quite stable. You can probably drop down to Expo for the Comex show on the last day for big discounts.

Go to HP.com and click on laptops, then customize and select those options that you want or need. HP offers better support than most others.

acer. But you get what you pay for. I also would not personally reccomend products from Vcon either. There are very cheap and need much care.
