I have just built a backyard pond, 1,400 gallons or so. All has been normal until now. a few goldfish are really giving one of there own a rough time, chasing it alll over even forcing it to break the surface of the water frequently. All the fish are new, and all came from the same well established pond. All are goldfish.
Any insights or advice would be greatly appreactiated.

You probably have more males then females. Try adding some more females or removing some males. Trade the bullies in for some different fish.

Yes they can be aggressive for apparently no reason at all. Though normally its competition over food or space, so be sure your pond isn't over stocked :) Also, sometimes they will go after an ill fish, as its the weakest of the group. I have had this happen. If you remove the fish that's getting bullied, examine and treat if necessary, then wait a few days and add him back in, they may be fine :) If not, try for a longer period, and if all else fails your local fish shop may have him back and give you another.

My fish was a bit racist and killed off all of the solid gold goldfish and left the multicolored alone, even though they were all the same size and finage. It just happens.

My pondfish were very aggressive and killed eachother until I was down to just two. They even ate the frogs, the water plants, and nibbled the antennae off the snails. They now live in a large aquarium in my living room because I can't have a pond where I live now. I've tried putting plecos and other large goldfish in their tank, but they all get murdered. I'm convinced I have the two meanest goldfish in the world. So... my fish are just going to have to live the rest of their lives alone, I guess.

I've talked to people at pet stores about aggressive goldfish and they look at me like I'm nuts. But it's true, and I doubt it's that uncommon.

Goldfish can be aggressive...especially if they are wanting to mate. You may end up with more fish than you intended. If it is a territorial issue, try moving the fish to a separate area of the pond (if tiered...maybe another deep tier in the upper level) or consider removing the aggressive ones. Good luck...I am almost sure you are going to end up with lots of minnows.

i've heard of aggressive goldfish but i've never seen it and i've been keeping and breeding goldfish for 35 yrs
i'll bet money that your fish aren't fighting, they're spawning
that's what they do, chase, chase , chase somtimes being transferred to a new pond will spur them into spawning
make sure that they have plenty of plants to spawn on and make sure that they don't wear out the female that they are chasing
