That's easy, because deep down inside, we all rely on animal instincts. At heart, we all have animal urges, the only difference is that we have higher thought capacity, and therefore we have to put a term on everything.
Male animals are protective and territorial. Therefore, bigger muscles = greater ability to attract a mate, defend her and your territory, and stronger reproductive stamina.
Have you veer seen two bulls fighting? Pretty much the same thing you see at a club on saturday night!
This is the same reason why women get upset that men try to cheat, and look at other women. We are programmed that way! Every other male mammal on the planet does one thing: Spread their seed with as many females as possible, to extend their line.
Although we humans look at it as a guy is just being a ho by sleeping as much as he can, we are drawn to it because that is the way almost all male creatures act. When we look at a female walking by, it is instinct for us to look and be aroused. The same reasons men like nice bodies and large breasts. Instinctively, large breasts mean she is capable of producing milk for young. When I see an attractive woman, I don't think 'wow, she can make good milk", but I do feel an irresistable attraction. All men do. Females want to nest, they want to attract a male to help them produce offspring, and to help raise and defend their progeny. Males want to reproduce as much as possible with as many females as possible.
It's not "men are from mars, women are from venus", it's just nature.
You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals so let's do it like they do on the discovery channel.

I think it's better to spend more time learning martial arts than building muscles for show. Muscles alone won't make you a better fighter. A boxer once told me that the guys who only build big muscles are the easiest to beat.

Consider that no matter how strong or muscular you become, there will always be someone stronger, and somebody who can beat your butt. Something to think about regarding what really constitutes a man.

Also, think how many men are popular with women who don't have muscles. I saw Frank Sinatra with his shirt off on Turner the other day and remember thinking he needed to go the gym. Elvis? There are lots of them.

Nevertheless, check this out (the cartoons). This was a classic when I was growing up: http://www.charlesatlas.com/

Physical strength has decided advantages. Being weak has definite disadvantages. Its nice to have a well-muscled body (I don't) as lots of muscles burn calories more efficiently so it helps to keep your weight down. However, the primary reason men like to have big muscles is that is a sexual attractant - a lot of women like men with a great body, just as men like a woman with a great body. It is an indicator of good health, too. For actors it can be a decided asset - can you imagine David Spade playing a role meant for Arnold Schwarzegger?

Only some men are so concerned about muscles. Those of us without over-developed muscles are aware that weightlifting is an exercise which requires constant lifelong repetition. Changes in the program could result in severe consequences. Something called 'musclebound', [like paralysis or worse] is the result of failure to maintain an endless exercise pattern for the duration of life. We are warned that prior to undertaking a serious weightlifting program, we should consider it to be deadly without a full lifetime commitment!
At least that's MY excuse for not wanting to be like Arnold Swartzenegger...besides, it seems kinda prissy to me!

The structure of their well chiseled bodies attracts girls.
Then he healthy nature of their bodies to be a man kind of demands strength and muscles hopefully shows true strength and masculine features. To be well built...
Girls feel the same way but do not want to take it to the butch level. It does not look well to be a hard body but a soft one...
We like the men hard...so to speak.

because guys want to do things to themselves that appeal to women. And women, inadvertantly, want a man with muscles because she feels he can protect her, which is all instincts. Plus some men feel they need muscles as a form of proctection or to put themselves "above the herd" for females.

I think some guys like having them because it gives them a sense of accomplishment and it shows them that their hard work has paid off and they think that it attracts girls and that women are into that. Me personally I like some muscles but not scary steroid muscles!
