I assume you are asking about the U.S.A.

Definitely not, and any of the replies above that say the contrary are talking nonsense. But the baby will be a citizen (under the 14th Amendment if born in one of the 50 states or the D.C.; by statute if born in a territory (except American Samoa (pop. 57,000) and Swains Island (pop. 37), where the baby would be a "noncitizen national" without voting rights)).

When 18 years of age, a U.S.-citizen child could sponsor his or her mother as an immediate relative.

There are lots of links to newspaper articles and case law at the site linked below. Including cases ordering the deportation of mothers of American-born offspring, giving the mother the choice of leaving her children behind or taking them abroad at US Government expense. Some women have been ordered deported even though legally married to an American and with American children.

No, not at all. If a woman has a baby here, that baby is then a citizen...by virtue of being born in this country. But the woman would still have to go through the process of becoming legal.

Also, it doesn't matter whether she becomes pregnant on purpose or not. Either way, the result is the same.

Where the hell have you been? What do you think the term ANCHOR BABY means? It means the baby that is born here is automatically a US citizen and then the mother doesn't get thrown out but is then given WIC food stamps and has had her child for free in your hospital. The mother can go back but won't. When we change the 4th amendment of the Constitution this will stop. There are documented cases of women crossing the borders into San Diego in labor just to have the baby here. And if Bush get his guest worker program (actually there already is one in place) the first thing a guest worker will do is to get pregnant, if female, or get his wife or girlfriend pregnant, if male, so they have an American born child to anchor them here making it that much harder to send them back to the country of origin when their work permit expires. I suggest a mandatory birth control system for anyone on the guesat worker program but that will never happen, will it we would be violating their civil rights even though they are not citizens and thereby not eligible or diserving of them. You won't be given any rights on Mexxico if you illegally immigrate there, you will get a 3 year prison term where you have the right to survive if you can.

A child born in the US is considered an American citizen, period. Upon reaching the age of 21, the child may petition for it's foreign parents (and brothers and sisters) to enter the US as permanent residents, who may later naturalize, if they so wish and meet the requirements.

No. We had a case in Ohio where the mother was illegal, but had children here in the US. She was deported back to South America and her children remained here because they were citizens.

No. If the child is born in the US, the child is automatically a citizen. It just makes it harder to throw the illegal back.
