Apparently, under the new definition of a planet, it is not a planet because it does not have the mass, and the gravitational pull, to move other objects from its orbit around the sun.

that's exactly it. A dwarf planet. So, is a dwarf planet not really a planet. Maybe not yet qualified. A few billion years perhaps.
