I admired this lawyer very much and looked up to him but a few days ago, he told me that he had a sex encounter with a client. Now i don't think much of him. Lawyers out there, is this kind of stuff common in your profession?

You know what? You're probably right to have reservations about this person.

I've been in legal administration for almost 15 years. This sort of thing can happen as if can in any profession, but it is actually quite rare. Sleep with your client, get caught, risk getting disbarred. The only kind of idiot who would do this is one with a reckless disregard for their profession or their own personal livelihood.

Don't let one bad person ruin your view of an entire profession. Most lawyers honor ethical guidelines.

Every profession. You would be surprised how many people have carried on affairs from positions of trust and respect. Some are just more discreet than others. Regarding this lawyer: was it an affair for gratuitous sex or something that he pursued because he was attracted to more than just the idea of sex? Is he sorry about it now? Those kinds of things might help you renew some respect for this person. I know of many people in respected positions that have made mistakes and learned. I also know some that are calculating and manipulative and don't care what the consequences are as long as he/she can stay in his/her position.

I am not a lawyer.. but I know "many" people of different industries would even do more than that to get what they want.. Career-driven people live for their careers and would sleep their way up easy.. worse are desperate clients or black-mailed ones..

Humans are becoming sadder by the day! :(

I'm sure it happens on occasion, but not as much as you probably think. There are sleazeballs in every profession, unfortunately. You can do better than this guy! :)
