I think his behavior is inappropriate and insensitive. Words lead to actions, and where this is leading can be dangerous grounds.

The only sweetheart a married man should have is his own wife. He should not be having a very close relationship with another woman. It is very inappropriate. He may love his wife, but he also cares about his girlfriend. He should not have any close female friends once he's married, especially if his wife doesn't approve of it.

I don’t know that there is really any concern…
I’m a happily married man, and I will often make a comment like “It’s OK darlin” to people other than my wife. I think ‘terms of endearment’ such as darlin’ or dear are not inappropriate to use.
I often have a problem with remembering the names of people, so being able to use words like mate or darlin’ is a blessing in disguise!
Mind you, if I started calling other women ‘beautiful’ or ‘honey’ or maybe ‘sweetheart’ (I’m not too sure about that one) my wife would probably start being concerned.
I don’t think it is right to judge whether a husband loves his wife, just by the ‘terms of endearment’ that he uses with other women. Of course, if he used names like that for other women, and called his wife names like Bi*ch, *hore, Sl*t, etc it would be a totally different story altogether!!!

Depends on what you do with the friend? Has your wife met her? I have a male friend,I met him at a new job and have been friends for 17 years, after he met my husband 6 months after I was working at the job, they too are friends. Now our friend has a new relationship and we met her and we too are friends. My male friend calls me sexy all the time, nobody cares cuz because we love our partners not each other,we're just friends. We do love each other, but in a different way. If you don't have that kind of friendship then it will never work between you, your wife or your friend.

Yes it is possible but the wife has to be okay with the whole idea and not be jealous. It depends on the trust she has in him if it can work. Sometimes guys are great friends whether they are married or not.

If a man is married there is no reason to have friends of the opposite sex. It is just trouble waiting to happen. It is inappropriate especially if he is calling her sweetheart. Obviously it is making you uncomfortable which is another reason he should stop the behavior.

I am in this situation, I think he loves the wife, but has fun with the friend. Wants both and will take both unless you are ready to walk. If you do, and he doesn't stop you, then you know what his feelings truely are. But, you have to be ready to actually walk. I am at that point, as we speak.

the man is an idiot for saying that, most females are not comfortable with their husbands having a good female friend, very dangerous territory, lot of jealousy
