Well , someone has to stop Iran ,ill answer you but you will have to excuse my English because I'm from a country threatened by that programme .
see ,i have to take you to the late 70s where the story begins, in Iran there was much opposition against the Iranian president Mohammad Reza Shah, and how he used the secret police to control the country ,Strong Shi'i opposition against the Shah, and the country came close to a situation of civil war. The opposition was lead by Ayatollah Khomeini.
This was the beginning of Iranian revolution, By the way ,There are several branches of Islam. The majority of Muslims belong to Sunni Islam but Iran was (and still is ) rolled by the shi'i extremists. since Ayatollah Khomeini declared an Islamic republic with a new Constitution reflecting "his ideals" of Islamic government.
Its not over yet the story isn't going to end here ,because the shi'i extremists have a bigger plan which is
1-To spread Ayatollah Khomeini message ,The shi'i revolution. through out the Arab gulf and Iraq so they can control Mecca
2-So they can become the first leading Islamic country, not by invading them ,No , by strengthen the Shi'i groups in these countries which seems to be working because unlike the Sunni Muslims the shi'i Muslims are loyal to Iran against their own countries.
That's my dear is the story USA doesn't seem to like that , so are we the threatened neighbors of Iran.

Maybe SAVS has completely lost the plot. He says they have no choice ??? !!! We all have choices.
I am a pacifist , have been all my life, and I am still alive.
The aggressive governments of the world are run usually by old men , who send young men to die in wars, The First World War all the generals were old (average 62)and the average age of dying soldiers was 18.
Will we ever learn from history ? We must try. There is another way . with a voice and a brain , persuade people that we only have one life. The young should be allowed to live.

I like the way you put,
"How can the US etc. justify not attacking them,as this is what they do isn't it?"
Indeed, it would look very bad if the USA backed down and didn't bomb the hell out of them.
I mean, the Talibans refused to give Bin Laden to the USA, and said they didn't even know where he was - Result - Bombed to hell and invaded.
Sadam refused to give his WMD to the USA, and said he didn't even have any - Result - Bombed to hell and invaded.
Now Iran is refusing to stop the nucleur programme and ADMIT they are trying to enrich uranium. If this doesn't result in being bombed to hell and invaded, the USA won't be taken seriously anymore.
They have no choice.

The West wont do it. If it is done it will be done by Israel in a surgical strike to take out the facility. They would in all probability use unmarked aircraft coming in from another direction and then deny any involvement.

Interesting answer from 'savs', in reality Saddam had no WMD but Bush and Blair insisted he had. Result, thousands of Iraqi men, women and children dead and civil war just round the corner. The Arab people have long memories so Bush and Blair will never be forgotten.

Yes. But, President Bush is trying his hardest to make sure it gets delayed until he's out of office. It will be the next administration's nightmare.

its not a question of will we? but of when will we?
and if when we will it'll be worst than iraq and afganistan put together, because iran actually has an army and an air force and there very well equiped.
I'm in the armed forces serving in afganistan at the mo and i can tell you its not going to be pretty.
oh well at least i'll be able to top up my tan.

This is a good question worthy of a good answer. How do you know that Iran would not be a good custodian of nuclear weapons? How do you know a good custodian of nukes? We can only judge by past data. Like, "Do you have nukes?". "Have you used them before?" . "When and against who?" "Why?" . "Did they retaliate?" . "Why not?" . That kind of thing. Get me?

They plan to wipe us out from the face of the earth and that's a fact.Do we wait for them to make the first move? That a very costly chance I wouldn't want to make. It comes down to its them or us that will survive! And I choose us!
