Ever notice democracies tend not to last over 200 years?

I love my USofA, but, alas, I see her faltering to her own size. I don't think this government was quite ready for the size we've grown.
But, she has left her mark on the world, taught many a lessons, has been the best of examples if acceptance, freedom, independence.
Even if she doesn't go on much longer, her legacy will go on to outlive any country yet to come.

This is a two-part question.

1. "Why". “Why?” is a very good question. It has been discussed for thousands of years. Socrates asked Plato. Plato asked Homer. Homer asked Jethro. None of them could answer the question “WHY?”.

Uh, the U.S is not an empire. It doesn't control its conquests, e.g., South Korea, Japan, Germany, Panama, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Kosovo, Bosnia and Iraq.

And as for decline? Let's see, the U.S. economy is more powerful than ever, it is still driving much of the technological and scientific innovation, it spends more on the military than the rest of the world combined, and the U.S can project its power farther and faster than it ever could before and better than any country over the history of the human race. With decline like that, who needs rises? (Look to Europe to where the real decline is occurring in the West, a slow but inevitable demographic decline from western values to Islamic values.)

Easy answer, but question was a little wrong, the whole goofed human race is in trouble , we invite idiots to run the democracies(eg US, Italy etc) we allow religious fundamentalist fools to run half the remaining countries(eg Iran and soon Iraq) and we continue to allow bloodthirsty murdering crackpots to run the rest( eg Zimbabwe, China etc) we allow the whole world to polute, murder, waste and so much else and YOU think that the US is acting like declining empire. Wake up stop blaming the US we are all F--cked.

Because empires do decline. But I'll ask a different question... From the following possibilities of a new future world rule, is any of these acceptable? a) China; b) The Arabs (through war). Both give me the shivers.

It appears to me after looking at your questions, that you have a deep hope for the collapse of the US and all free democracies. Hate to tell you, but your going to have a long wait. The US spends more money on their military alone than most countries entire fiscal budget. There are no signs of collapse of the country as a whole. The capitalist country's standard of living is way ahead of the best of the Communist country's and even China is slowing allowing more and more free enterprise
The fact that you hope, the state controlled media where you live states that, will not make it Happen. Most of Americas individual states have a more powerful economy than most countries.

I do believe Bush with his Fascist politics has driven America backwards with inflation and scare tactics. When people are unhappy nothing flourishes and all the prices sky rocket to compensate for the difference. We are in the middle of a recession from since the beginning of 2005. I look for the economy to start bottoming before Bush ends his Presidency unless he is impeached.
