It's like they're king of the world and everyone is like them! Geez! I mean, hello-- ever heard of Brits or Australians??? The world doesn't turn around you, just to say. When will they open up to all and leave alone the difference? I suffered so much at school as a kid just because I was French and different... gosh... you're the first to whine and say "everyone is different-- accept it" but you're also the first ones to start the problems about it! Okay, maybe not the first but a big part. I guess it would be a mistake on MY part to be too harsh, but still... I don't understand this sort of arrogance/ignorance over there!

Thanks for any answers and please remain as respectful as you can!

Broken_Halo000-- I didn't generalize! That's why I put "most Americans"! It would be a terrible mistake itself to generalize... and if I did, it was honestly by mistake! I know many Americans are wonderful; I wouldn't insult them along with the other jerks and with such ignorance... : )

MuttyPuppy (well-picked name for you) -- what you say is gibberish. First you whine about your looks and resembling to your father, then you bluntly say you don't care about me and if I had a problem today...! Wow, maybe you could take more care in your words next time? Thanks.

You're angry because someone made a remark (obviously a stupid one) about you using Brit spellings? Heh. Hop on into the boat. I've used Brit spellings since I can remember. 99% of the time, they just make more sense than the Americanised spellings. I get all kinds of crap for it, ranging from "y dont u spell thingz rite?!" to "are you ashamed to be American, or something?" (I'll plead the 5th on that one, but I will say I've wished very often to have the resources to become Canadian, especially lately).

Just ignore the dumbasses. Half of them probably don't even realise that both spellings are correct. Less than two braincells to rub together, and all that. The rest are being jerks just to be jerks.

In general, the people in the US do not know very much outside of their own country. It is a problem when they interact, but it may actually be better now than it was in the past. I think some of them have heard of Canada now, although some of them think it's Canukistan and a lot of others have heard about it but they can't quite remember who the governor is there.
I grew up on the shore of the St-Lawrence River in a tourist village and I remember people coming across the border in July and asking where the snow was. This would have been excuse able, but some of them asking this came from NY State, just across the river.
Overall, though, I've always found that people from the US are generally kind and polite if somewhat naive and uninformed.
BTW, Canadian spelling is also like International English (colour, realise, . . . )

I'm sorry so many Americans have been rude. I'll try to make amends for my rude countrymen (and women). Maybe someone should remind them that the British spellings existed long before the American ones did. I read somewhere the other day that it was Ben Franklin who started the whole American-spelling thing. For my part, I like the British spelling. By the way, have you read the book "Eats Shoots and Leaves"? Very funny, if you're a grammar geek like I am.

Just a few points to reflect upon here.

THE BRITS ARE **NOT** EUROPEANS!!!!!

Brits are noted for their devastating good looks, unending charm and supreme intelligence. And modesty :o)

Europeans are noted for...

Errmmmmmm...

What ARE Europeans noted for, apart from their enthusiasm for uniting and, in union, cowering together under a common white flag? :oP

Brits speak and write English. After England.

Americans speak and write American. After America.

The American language is actually a corruption of the English language. It shouldn't be called "American English" it should be called either "American" or "Improper English".

But does it really matter? In the end, what means the most is what is written, not how it is spelt. Or spelled.

All anybody really needs to know is that when it comes to things spoken or written, Brits are always right, and everybody else is always wrong :o)

Rule Britannia!

Vive la France!

God Bless America!

question..why do you make a generalization about an entire country and every occupant in said country without talking to EVERY SINGLE resident to get their opinions, THEN say, "please remain as respectful as you can."?

that's like saying..."i hate you, now say something nice to me".

not EVERY American is an arrogant ignorant jerk off, although a lot are..(just like every country has it's own select group of jerk offs), and when you say that "we" are the first ones to start problems, i think perhaps you mean our government officials..which by-the-way...run everything. it may say "land of the free", but in reality the government calls the shots.

i don't generalize an entire country over the few views of a bunch of redneck bigots that happen to end up on CNN, perhaps you shouldn't judge so harshly.
if you were treated unfairly at school, i am truly sorry for that...but i can't think of anyone that floated through life without some sort of adversity. matter of point, i was terribly teased and bullied in school. that's life, it sucks..but there you have it.
you can't judge a nation, based on the actions of a bunch of idiot adolescents and their obviously childish behavior..some of us ARE a bit more mature than that.

I guess it is a problem. I don't feel it as much since moving to Korea. Now, here, I have a pronunciation problem, due to my illness. But, such is life.

i won't remain respectful! I so do know Americans are rude and all but these are our opinions. When somewhere insults my nation i get real mad! i am half chinese and everyone said that was cool and didn't make fun of me for. I have heard of many other people. For all i care i wanted to look Thai! I look pale and have blue eyes. That is how an American looks! But i was supposed to look like my mom but no i had to look like my dad. I can leave you alone, i don't really care about you. Us? Start problems? We help problems. Geez what is your problem today?

Not all Americans are rude. Unfortunately, rude people are in every crowd. Sorry if you've had a bad experience with some Americans but, please don't judge us all by the actions of a few.

i totally agree with you.i don't know what's up with them!who gave them the impression that they are better than everyone??if you study the history of America you will see that they are what they are today because of British and French colonies.they should be grateful to the Europeans.

hey, it doesn't bother me that you all spell things differently than we do. Anyone who attacks your way of spelling is just a moron, because the real ignorance on this site (spelling wise) is how many don't know the difference in these words:

your, you're; to, too; their, they're, there;

That is what you were talking about, right? If not, sorry for babbling.
