i feel so because of the impression people have created about india outside the country. outside people just talk bout the villages and jungles of india. there is a great need to create awareness about our country. about our richness in culture and heritage. the common man outside doesn't know this fact.
nobody in the world can beat our intelligence.remember we invented zero in mathematics, our saints and old philosophers talked about the universe and other sciences even before the american or russian or british scientists' ancestors were born!
we have a 5000 year old civilization but the problem is we dont talk about it...even people of our own country do not respect our country ,we always want to follow and praise the west so how can we expect them to know about us?

To be honest I was surprised by how well educated my Indian classmates were in college. I believe that many "Westerners" are exposed mostly to the part of Indian culture and life that still has problems (like health problems and poverty). I am sure that you are aware of these problems in your country. Some people do not realize that they are being shown these problems because we concentrate on areas where we think we can help. Obviously countries like the US have issues with poverty as well but they tend to come from different sources, and so we think that if we are exposed to each other's issues, someone might have a solution. We forget that we are only looking at a small peice of the culture, which is ultimately foolish because then we don't see the most realistic and simple answers.

Most people have narrow minded view point hence they conclude on utterly baseless ideas. Indeed, to know someone, something or even know a country one has to be in the shoes and experience it. Let the people who comment come over here and see, actually life in India is far far better than anywhere in the world. Morally and economically Indians are better off. We they are referring to flaws like corruption, poverty, health issues, insecurity to life, we can find them anywhere in the world. Comprehend it, the great America could not survive a terrorist attack (WTC: so many lives were lost). Natures fury cannot be escaped be it the affluent countries or the third world nations. Devastation is equally visible. It's a different issue altogether the effects of nature's fury far reaching here. Though we are a step behind from the affluent nations, we can tackle the issues and after effects with much ease.
I can still walk on the road with my head held high. I am a free bird here.

Ignorance is always a good excuse; however, I think it is the great poverty that may give this impression.
And Ballywood doesn't help. Ballywood makes everyone appear to be shallow and vain.
Please, do not be amused. Go out into the streets and the countryside and see the unforgivable poverty and then report back to this forum about your amusement.

That is a prejudice spread about during east india days to keep the country in their grip and minimal means of communications Yahoo answers is going to change that perception forever and the people around the globe realise that india is not what they presume it is but it is a dynamic civilisation which has survived the onslaught of marauders age after age and the marauders are sleeping in their graves queitly but the country survived .we should make people around the globe realise that we beleive in live and let llive and not in war anytime in past as well it is unlikely to change in any time in future. We believe in human values and life is precious at heart and not just lip moving meaning something else at heart.

POEM WRITTEN IN INDIA ..
INDIA
Im trying hard to disbelieve..
disconnect from what i see...
divert all morals .. of humanities seeds
the ones that were so trustingly given to me ...
my eyes are closed.
to selected viewing .
my ears nulled ..
to the voices ensuing .
my mouth tightly sealed..
by the stiff upper lip .
as i precariously wade
through consumerist sh1t ..
but i admit .
.I'm riveted to the scene..
slain by the action ..
of each decimal fraction .
seconds and minutes
by degrees ..
my eyes now take focus ...
i hear the desperate scream ..
my mouth starts to quiver ..
i shudder and shiver.....
as the shackled emotions ...
break free..
GOD ...
its a thrill...
watching a crow .
ripping through yesterdays road kill..
and its an honor to see ..
a mother hold her child like a limp lettuce leaf ..
and join in the feast ...
o .the pleasure to see
a leper jest towards his falling flesh .
with the bloodied stumps ...
he has left...
i confess a sick fascination fills my head
COULD IT..
make me feel better...
to imagine Hitler... or any other killer
reincarnated as a leper ...
could suffering ever subside...
on such a karmic merry go ride ..
GOD..
give me a go at this 'god thing' ...
I'm, sure i can make it less painful than this ...
my hands seem so tied ....... by the great divide ...
and that ignorance so tranquilly bliss.
so all i can do is stare .
.as an expanding market force exploits ..the remains ..of a culture ..
eroding a civilization in to a new composure ..
and turning the citizens into vultures ..
.

Amazing, isn't it that people should think that way. I think because India is always portrayed as a poor country (showing only the poverty side) and people think poor = illiterate, backward thinking and all things negative.
They should portray the Indian computer genius, mathematicians, scientists etc and give a balanced view.
