Lead: The term "lead" is used to tell which fore leg of the horse is farther forward (leading). This term is used only in the canter and gallop. A horse is on his "left lead" when his left fore leg is leading and on his "right lead" when his right fore leg is leading
The flying change is a movement performed by a horse in which he changes leads at the canter. It is often seen in dressage, where the horse may do several changes at once (tempi changes), or in jumping events, where a horse will change lead as it changes direction on the course.

I wish i could be more of help but I don't know enough about the english/australian riden show events.......i am sorry
I wish you the best of luck!

Whew, thats a lot to explain.

When you canter a horse in a ring going counter clock wise, his left leg should be the one extending. If going clock wise, the right should be the extended leg.

Your horse should know to change his lead if you know your leg cues.

Try going down the center of the ring, having him change leads with your leg telling him which one you want forward.

If you watch a horse race, you will be able to see the horses change their lead when one leg gets tired.

when galloping the horse will lead with either the 'left' or 'right' leg...meaning that his foremost step is with the left or right front leg, the rest of the body motion will follow that step..left lead means that the horse uses his left front leg to 'lead' the rest of his body...and 'right' lead is the use of his right leg to lead the rest of the galloping motion...a flying lead change is when the horse will switch 'left' lead to 'right' lead while galloping without faltering its movement....usually done while doing a figure 8..hope that helps
