Another MRU question - i have looked and tried elsewhere but nothing works to clear it. Running XP with wanadoo toolbar (am in france).

I want to clear the 'auto-complete' function. BEFORE you answer, please note that i have tried the following....

Clear history / cookies / temp internet files
Tools - internet options - auto complete - clear files
AdAware etc
Purge I.E. pro

but i cannot get rid of the autocomplete thingy; that is to say if i type ya in the toolbar, it automatically finishes the line, giving me the options of yahoo.com / .uk etc

is there any way of manually removing these things?

Hi.

You need to do it in two places.

1. Tools->Internet Options->Content Tab->Auto Complete. Uncheck all options. Clear forms & passwores. Click ok.

2. Tools->Internet Options->General Tab->Clear History

Afterwards, if that doesn't work, you can delete the registry entries and etc for IE that corresponding to this setting.

One moment please. You are using winXP
When you go to autocomplete, there no option to clear files.
Infront of autocomplete there is a button named Settings,
which opens a Autocomplete Settings Window.
It contains three options with auto complete,
You need to uncheck each of them,
then click OK.
Also Uncheck the inline Autocomplete box, in the browser section of the advanced panel of Internet Options

mail me if the problem persists

go to tools - internet options - then the advanced tab on the top and uncheck use inline auto complete it's about half way down the list

lookup microsoft power toys for xp on the microsoft site and download treakui and within that program you can set it so that all that stuff is deleted everytime you shut down or start up. I use it and it works great also there are alot of other settings in there that you wouldn't normally have access to

You can't clear web addresses, but if you "untick" the box where it says "use autocomplete for web addresses", it will stop autocompleting web addresses you type in.
