Just read the answers. Not a person responded what is the point having the sign if they can't read the language. Bit like if your blind and mute tell your blind dog that the sign says watch the step

Because that is the abomination of "Political Correctness" foisted on the American people by the Far Left Wing Liberal ACLU Adoring Democrats.

I 've been to France and never seen such signs neither in Hong Kong, Thailand, Germany, Italy the Netherlands, Russia, Samoa, Brazil Spain and believe it or not not even in MEXICO!

Only in America !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh!!

This is a recognition of the multilingual and muticultural makeup of the population. Not everyone can speak English but since an essential transaction must be made, then the presence of an interpreter is necessary.

because they are forced to be PC.
they have to adhere to certain rules - whether those rules are sensible or not - or they could be accussed of discrimination.
there is a type of person who will go around looking for any insult, whether it affects them or not.
In the old days, people would write them off as busybodies and ignore them.
these days, with ambulance chasing lawyers who will sue at the drop of a hat, you have to cover all bases, even to the point of absurdity (as in the warning on packets of peanuts - "warning; may contain nuts")

The governement wants to make sure that you are understood properly and that you are not disadvantaged in any way because of a language barrier.

because non of us can understand local accents like, geordie, brummie, "oh arr" somerset, scousers etc.

because we are becoming so "pc" that it is "wrong" to ask people to speak OUR nation's language (rolling eyes)
