By saying you need to believe in yourself more and not be so bothered about what others may or may not think of you.
It's only important what YOU think of YOU. Who cares, you're not there anymore, why do you feel the need to cause yourself unnecessary pain?
If they didn't like you very much, then they don't like themselves much, if it was a dig then they are nasty and don't respect themselves. Why take advice from the sick and disturbed?
DO NOT TAKE THIS COMMENT ANYWHERE ELSE. LEAVE IT AT THE WORKS DO, and focus on your new job.
Sounds like jealousy to me.

They sound as if they are jealous of you,and are just having a petty sarcastic dig at you, don't worry, know your much better than that and let your good self rise above such daft behaviour.

I think you thought this person did not like you, this person may have been intimidated by you and have a secret crush or could have been a bit shy and your great presence that you possess may have squashed their tiny existence.

To me that would mean "Continue to be yourself. I may not agree with what you say but I will fight for your right to your own opinions and actions".
Accept it as aproval, smile and move on.

either you were wrong and he/she could see some good value to yourself ...or he/she had nothing else to say, but felt it necessary to say something, so used a typical line, without much thought.

i wouldn't. does it matter? if it was a sideways dig - it is worth ignoring. if it was meant as a compliment, it was kinda weak. put your energy into doing your own thing.
