Depends what you're after but having visited the following (for the ancient ruins, castles, mosques etc.) I can highly recommend them - Jordan, Syria, Eygpt & Libya.

I suppose technically speaking the last 2 are North Africa.
I'd probably not visit Syria just yet but when things quieten down i'd have no qualms about returning.

I see someone else recommended Iran. Not been but would love to go.

I'm not from that part of the world (born and live in the UK) and felt very safe. Do check out the local laws and customs first though.

I'm always in the middle east for work...... I regularly visit Dubai, Bahrain, Jordan and Egypt.... Jordan is my favourite, so much history, so mysterious and beautiful. Dubai is wonderfully extravagant and opulent.

The people that I've met are wonderful and have opened their hearts and often their homes to me, they are hospitable and friendly.

I'm getting sick of the Middle East bashing that takes place on this site, they are all not fundamentalist idiots. It's people that don't travel to these places in my opinon that are narrow minded and haven't even bothered to understand the cultures that exist. Most places that I've been to, muslims live peacefully alongside Christians and in fact in Egypt, St Catherine's monastery, a christian holy place is protected by both Muslims and Christians.

Clearly there are some places to stay away from, I hear Iraq is a bit of a trouble spot right now!!!!!

To be honest, there are parts of South America (and North America) that I wouldn't want to travel to and wouldn't consider taking a holiday in North Korea....

So to answer your question, yes I would go to the Middle East, for business and pleasure!

I would love to visit all those countries, but afraid of them and flying. I just do not know, I am at a age where it is really not my cup of tea, however, I might have liked it earlier. The stress of just going through all the search, and such. My sister visited Egypt this year, and all the bodyguards had guns to protect the tourists. Also the police there, were always keeping an eye on things to protect them. After she returned, there was a big explosion and killed or hurt some tourists. I would rather just get a video on it and look at it that way. I am a big sissy I guess. . .

I'd love to visit the Middle East. I've always wanted to see Jerusalem and, strange as this may sound at the moment, Iraq. Before Saddam Hussain came to power there was an area so naturally beautiful it was believed to be the Garden of Eden. It was an area of water in which man and beast lived in perfect harmony. Sadly, it was drained under Saddam Hussain's rule. Obviously it's not safe to go over there at all at the moment, and I think that this is a terrible shame. I am very interested in architecture and civilsation and would love to go to see the remnants of teh Ottoman and Persian Empires. I can only hope that some kind of peace will be restored there in my lifetime so that I will have the chance to explore.

I would recommend Dubai in the UAE. The Burj al Arab hotel there is impressive to look at: http://www.360travelguide.com/listimage.asp?StartNum=1&CountrySelect=United+Arab+Emirates&LocSelect=All+Locations

Did you mean what country would I go to? I'd go to Iran because I am from there, but that's just me :p Also a nice place would be Abu Dhabi because I hear it is beautiful there, safe, and clean.
