The separation of church and state is today seen as an important basis for a modern democratic society (despite views to the contrary...). Might the same someday be true for the separation of state and economy?

in the years preceding the great depression, state and economy were largely separated... and the result was extreme corruption in government and extreme poverty for much of the population. FDR change that with policies based on a theory called Keynesian economics.

Simply: if the government takes a laissez-faire stance to economics, it will allow the invisible hand of the free market to work its magic. :)
