The care of all pet hamsters is fundamentally similar, but there are differences in feeding and housing needs. Dwarf hamsters can be kept with a cagemate of the same gender to prevent loneliness, but Syrians are extremely territorial and will kill other hamsters in their cage. Chinese hamsters can be kept in pairs occasionally, but are more aggressive than other dwarves. Hamsters are nocturnal by nature. Many people prefer them to rats as pets, given rats' generally unsavory popular reputation. Unlike rats, they are not particularly good at learning tricks but can be entertaining to play with and watch. They are also much smaller than guinea pigs, although equally as furry and appealing, so are more appropriate for homes with limited space.

In the United States, the Campbell's hamsters are more popular than the winter white, while the reverse holds in Europe. Roborovski and Chinese hamsters are somewhat more difficult to breed and keep, and are usually only available from breeders. They are the least common type of hamster to be kept as pets.

If you are looking for a dog, a good choice is a Chihuahua..they are very loyal and great companions. Just make sure you are committed to whatever animal you get BEFORE you get it, so many people get small pets, and then find out that it is not really what they wanted. A pet is a part of your family, and should not be discarded as anything less.

I've had several small pets (hamsters, parakeets, fish) but none was as much fun as my dogs. They were almost as much work though! Don't get me wrong - I did like them quite a lot. Parakeets can become very tame if you have the patience to train them. Hamsters are pleasant enough, if not very bright. Don't ever set them on a table cause they'll run right over the edge (mine did but was fine luckily!) You just can't do as many things with small pets that you can do with a dog. And it seems like dogs really do love you back. I was never sure how my beta fish felt about me.

You should consider getting a ferret, they are the most entertaining pets. I have two. Diego my black eyed White is deaf but he can jump and buck around the house like a horse. He is also the house inspector. He inspects the cabinets, closets, shoes ect.

Now Dustin, my sable has made it his mission in life to steal all remotes. I bought him his own and he has three others. Recently I bought a universal TV/Satellite Remote...and he has tried to steal it on several occasions. He also loves shoes and Chinese back scratchers.

See what you are missing????

I can recommend without hesitation that a Maltese breed is the most beautiful and loving dog on the planet. They love people and return great warmth.. They require lots of love and they give love in return. They are loyal and extremely good looking.
