Through hobbies and mutual interests.
I LOVE arcades, and so do all of my friends.
A bout of Capcom Vs. SNK 2, a demonstration of a very technical section of a shmup, a drifting replay, or a few rounds of various rythm games (IIDX, DDR, GF/DM) are what bring us all closer together.
Do you have a hobby that you like?
If you do, why not trying to find other people or clubs in the area that share your same interests? If not, what about starting a local organization?
Don't have a hobby, why not just start investigating what clubs meet near you? And then seeing what they're up to?
Some of your best friends you may meet through mutual hobbies. I know that I met my fiancee in an arcade/lounge... and that almost all of my friends are gamers.
