I disagree, you can buy good health. If your able to buy food for a good diet which you need money for in our society and keep yourself warm in winter with cloths and a roof over your head then your health is likely to be much better than if you didnt have the money to do so.
Some people give importance to it beacause other areas of life like morals, and personal adventure is replace by materialistic objects and being part of the rat race.
Or doing what is the norm!! Caving in to all the advertising and living a life thats viewed as acceptable by fellow citizens and living how the government and corporate companys will make most money and have most controll over your everyday life.
Survival's another reason, survival of the fitest, doing what will make oneselve king of there jungle *;)
Power may be some peoples importance for having more and more money, with power comes controll.
Then again more money could mean you can do more things, go on more holidays, invest and make things better in certain areas. If you have enough money, you can make a bonfire out of it to keep you warm *;)
Its given so much importance because it can change an indivduals way of life dramaticaly. For better or worse.

On a personal note, I never cared for money while growing up. As a kid, due to the growing economic problems of my parents, I learned that true happiness is obtained by realizing the meaninglessness of passing desires, like eating chocolate, or buying a Nintendo game, and seeking that which fulfils us the most. Unfortunately for me, most of the things that come close to fulfil me are in other countries, and other things have to be learned. So I need money to: survive (living expenses), to save enough for my trips, and to have the classes necessary for my desired learning development.
You see, money implies certain restrictions to those who have little money or none. So, if I limit my goals and development desires, to what money restricts me too I may not be able to find the happiness I seek.
Hope you can relate to that on some level.

I hate money. Let me clarify. I should say: I hate needing money. But having said that -- Even though money can't buy love, happiness, and health, money is still very important because it buys security. Yes, money buys food, clothes, and shelter -- but security is the overriding theme. Also consider that money buys independence, very much related to security. This is important - the more money you have, the harder it is for people to tell you what to do, or control you.

There is a saying - If you make money your God, it will plague you like the devil.
We all need money to survive. It is not that it is unimportant to have it, the problem is how much importance we place on it.
Many of us are happy to have enough to survive on. Others just want to amass it. And sadly, for those people, they love their money too much to ever really love anything or anyone else.

Because with enough money, you don't have to worry about where the money for the next bill is coming from. And if you want to treat your other half to something they really want, you can, and not worry about it. When you struggle with finances it puts a strain on your relationship and any form of social life is put on the back burner so instead of enjoying yourself, all you seem to do is go to work, come home, sleep and go back to work again.
I personally don't want lots of money, just enough to be comfortable on

because this world is built around it. It os the only way that the world will function, unfortunately. I mean, for example, in America, we go to school to learn how to work and then we work to make enough money to survive, and when we have enough money, we retire from work. Everything goes around money. Its sad but its the way of the world for now.

Money can get women interested in you... "What first attracted you to the geriatric Billionaire Hugh Hefner?" And money can but private medical care. And as for happiness? Money can alleviate poverty and struggle, which make it hard to be happy. And it's hard to cry all over your new Armani suit in your new Ferrari P4/5, I should imagine.
Toss me some cash, I'll take the risks! ;-())

this question is something i have also been thinking about
and here is my idea about money,
its emotive in the way of time
it gives you something to aim for
like the bigger house, nice car,
things that you may not have the confidence
to do yourself,
otherwise no one would be working as they
would be making their own nest(house)
it is the same as books, stories can trigger
all sort of emotions in you however
like money, it is just patterns on paper
when all is said and done

Money is not important for me. People think if they have money, they can buy whatever they want. Sometimes, money can buy love. Example: A woman is falling in love with a rich guy.

because money can buy all of those things, and many many more. that saying was just invented, to keep the poor happy..... thats why its so important..... your saying, is just a saying, eg a stich in time saves 9, some of them carry a truth, but normally, they just arent relevant and alot come from pop songs, go get another job, get some health insurance, go nice places, meet nice people their, and get yourself a wife..
