Do you still have to be invited? Just try http://mail.google.com and see if you can get one without invite. Otherwise you will have to post your current email address and someone will have to send you an invite.

If you have a cell phone with text messaging you can sign up with out an invite from someone else.

The text messaging option is the only other way to sign up besides an invite from someone else.
