Modern Commercial "Moonshine" is like any other distilled spirit, prob. around 45-50proof
"Real `shine" depending on who and how its made ranges from 10-95proof
In anycase you need to know the maker or what you are doing cause you can poison someone real easy depending on the equipement.( eg. lead, anti-freeze)
Compare "real `shine" to Grain Alcohol and they are both about the same alcohol content (190~ aka 95proof) However `shine depending on how it was made will always taste better :)

My dad's apple cider that he kept under the greenhouse bench. It would hiss if you unscrewed the cap. us kids always knew about it and sometimes would rat him out to Mom.
