According to Wikipedia the earth's population was 6.5 billion on Feb 25, 2006. 6,500,000,000.

A list of countries with their birth rate per thousand of population, showed the whole world with a birth rate average of 20.05 per thousand per year - on Wikipedia as well.

Calculating 20.05 per thousand gives the birth rate of the world for a year (130,325,000 - 130 million) and dividing by 365 will give the birth rate per day, average.

357,055 - 357 hundred thousand per day.

To continue, subtract the number of deaths per day and you see how much the population is increasing.

An interesting graph of population growth as at the third link. It looks like a lazy "L"

Neither the birthrate nor the death rate alone means anything. The critical factor is the difference between the two rates.

The world birthrate is 21 births per thousand of existing population.

The world deathrate is 9 per thousand of existing population.

The difference is a natural increase of 12 per thousand, or an annual growth rate of 1.2%.

At that rate, the world's population will double in a little over 58 years. However, the less economically developed countries (not counting China, which has a low rate of natural increase) will double in less than 39 years, while the more economically developed countries will double in 700 years, mathematically.

However, the more developed countries probably will never double in population. Projections to the year 2050 show no change at all. In fact, Europe will lose population. Whereas, Africa will increase from its current 895 million to more than 1 billion, 941 million (1,941,000,000).

Note: All numbers are rounded off; mid-year data are used to calculate rates.
