I just quit my job!

It's the first time I can breathe in 5 years. Teaching is too underpaid for me. Love the kids, but hated the sheer amount of time that my school required.

Any advice on a new career idea?

Wow, that's gutsy. My dad always said, if you don't like what you're doing, quit. But before you quit, have another job already. Seems as though your patience didn't hold out.....

If you do decide to start your own business, be aware that your time will also be gone - but the chances of making more money are certainly better. First tip: open up a day-care center for moms, or how about a pet hotel (when owners are on vacation).

Find out what you like to do best, and try to find a job that best suites you. There are tons of interesting jobs out there - best of luck!

Hi, If you want to try something completely different and have the opportunity to make a good income than you need to check out Arbonne International. It is a 26 year old that is starting to take off. I just meant a lady that use to work in a school and switched over and is really happy about the change she made. You can listen about the company at http://www.wonderful.myarbonne.com On the right hand side of the page there are links you can click on to listen. Good luck to you.

hhhmmm...time was the big factor , heh?
My neighbors are both teachers and they have been lounging around the front yard for three months this whole summer.

Low pay I can understand. Teaching is a noble but underpaid profession. If you want more pay go into sales. (I'm assuming you have a degree since you taught) Sales isn't for everyone but you can earn some flexibility and the pay if often a direct formula for how much and how hard you want to work.

Congratulations for not getting sucked into the cesspool of hating your life. A lot would depend on what classes you taught. For example, an english teacher could make an excellent writer or editor. You may want to look at grad school, that is the surest way to make more money.

www.usajobs.gov is the federal job website and they are always hiring teachers.
www.avuecentral.com also lists fed jobs

Living in Europe on U.S. pay is great, and you have your choices of where. You don't have to commit long term - I think it's a 2 yr stint - but I think you'll enjoy the change.
One of the biggest advantages of teaching overseas is the parents are accessible and the kids don't get out of line. You'll have fewer discipline problems but also fewer parents with an education.
Good luck...

What kind of school did you teach at that required so much time? I thought teachers had it made being off in the summer and all.

Why don't you try nurse education or something like that. It would combine the two things that you have a passion for. There is a dramatic need for nurse educators. Of course it would require more education (if you don't have a Masters or PhD) but it could be a good comprimise.

I work at home and I love it. I have several companies I am doing, I would never go back to working for someone else. I have time for my business and I have LOTS of time for my husband. We both love our time together, especially now that we don't have to depend on a boss to
decide our fate. If you would like a suggestion to work at home this is a great way and I guarantee you will not regret it. Hope to see your there and join the fun. http://automaticbuilder.com/alundberg

Have you thought about becoming a social worker? A friend of mine is one and she makes $50,000 a year. She works for the County of Los Angeles.
