I'm looking for a list of novels that feature horses as the main character (like Black Beauty) and/or about girls and their horses. My niece has recently gone horse-crazy and I am looking for some gift ideas for her birthday. She reads at a 6-7 grade level.

All of Margarite Henry's horse books.
The Saddle Club series might be too young, but check anyway.
Walter Farley's Black Stallion books. His Island Stallion books.

White Ghost Summer...might be out of print, try the library? Excellant story though.
The Trixie Belden series came back, wholesome stories about a group of kids and mysteries, no violence, and horses.

One of my favorite books about horses was "King of the Wind". Based on a true story about the Godolphin Arabian, ancestor of most modern Thorobreds. It may be hard to find now. That was a while back. A must read is "Smoky the Cowpony" I think by Will James. A classic written by a real cowboy.

YOU COULD TRY SOME OF DICK FRANCIS NOVELS THEY ARE AMAZING AND THERE ARE MILLIONS OF THEM SO THERE WILL ALWAYS BE ANOTHER ONE TO READ!! OR JUST LOOK AROUND A BOOK SHOP AND ANY GOOD HORSE NOVELS WILL HAVE HORSES ON THE COVER!!
