China was a republic in the early 1900s and the name stuck with it. They rejected monarchy for republicanism. The revolutionaries believed that republicanism was the most advanced and modern form of government for them. So they made China a republic in 1911.

Because it's a communist country, and they will call hemselves anything they want. They also consider themselves democratic because the parliment elects the next president. Of course, the parliment is controlled by a dictator, so the next president is who the dictator wants as a front man. East Germany was called The German Democratic Republic when it was communist run, because it sounds better than the German Communist Country. Controlled countries call themselves whatever they want to make themselves look like something they aren't, because that's the type of propaganda that they feed their own people, and it works for them, and they expect that it will work throughout the world..

In my opinion it is the Chinese is doing the way she likes. Now she is taking steel and oil from the world consummation and it is going to be more since she is growing. There is no more communist idea in China because, she is capitalism and combine with hard core Chinese backward leadership who is afraid to let go.U.S. now has trade deficits with China and she does not allow outside to penetrate her country economic. We the American depends upon stuffs that made in China and right now we our America borrow money from the main land Chinese oversea because, the people want to be out from china. China calls herself Republic because, it is the land of her people and it is the propaganda since Mao was in power and I have been told that Mao killed so many people when he was in power and no one talked about it.Even now,the people who visit China have to be careful what to say and several people who speak against her will go to jail. Now you know the rest of her story.

The dirty little secret of communism. The government is supposedly supported by 99.9% of the people, take a vote, or just ask them when you are over there. Bet they all say they love their government. The reality is that those that do not support disappear. It's a forced (false) republic.

Based solely upon the way the American answers these questions and bashes his Government, I would say that it's easy to tell a dictatorship country,-- they all speak highly of how wonderful their government is.
Americans and some British give their government officials a real going-over. That's true freedom, --tear your Leader apart and roast him/her over the coals.
