You bring up several points in your question.
I doubt that the A is a better person than the C student. However, the A student is academically more successful. That may, or may not translate into financial, social, or personal success. If you have the capacity to be an A student and choose to do C work, then some might consider you lazy, disinterested or distracted.
Interesting questions to ask yourself: Why go to college? Does an education have an intrinsic value? Does knowledge have value, even when it is not immediately (or ever) applicable to employment?
Why bother to get good grades? To please the parents who are funding your education? To demonstrate both focus and drive even when working on something you don't enjoy? To find out if you really can compete? To impress that employer who may, one day, want to know whether you actually will work to your best ability for his/her business?
As for Algebra? Who knows where some bit of arcane knowledge, like algebra, might prove useful? In my experience, not very often.

Eternity, you do know that bill gates did study at harvard for a while before he dropped out right? I agree partly with what you're saying. And not all people who get good grades are successful/ more successful than the others. However, you do need to get the basics to build a foundation for your future, and at times, u need talent/skills as well if you're not the smart kid. True, having good grades doesnt mean that ure clever, but it does also show that u are more hardworking in working towards ur goals and stuff. That is an accomplishment. In short, just because of that, it doesnt mean u shouldnt work hard in school/ gain additional skills required. Ive pondered on what u asked when i was younger, but i realise now how education can be important as well. It's the application part. I hope you'll realise that soon. All the best!

An honor student does not always succeed in life as well as the c student. Some c students learned to work hard to get their grades because they were slower or had a job also and so they are better prepared than some Honor students. My son was in the top 10 but never studied or worried about school. He is intelligent but now he hasn't reached his potential. He was voted most likely to succeed his sr. yr. but he hasn't.Some of the kids who just got by or were ave. are doing much better. I do wish I had been tougher on him and made him study. He never brought books home and memorized what the teachers said while he was doodleing. He never took notes. I never would have thought he would not be doing much better by 30.He went straight into the Navy nuclear submarine school out of high school and had to work there to learn math that hadn't been offered at our school along with the navy's school. It is suppoed to be the 2nd hardest school in America, but I don't know .He made it fine. He has a job and works hard but hasn't reached toward any goal.He was a well rounded student in sports, band, gifted class, class fav., yearbook editor,Beta Club,Honors in science and band and math and computers, and he was active in church youth. He was able to go to state track as a freshman in the long hurdles and always played basketball as one of the main players even though gifted class cut into practice time. I raised him and his bro and sis alone and I just thought they would understand how hard it is to just get by and would want to do better. There is still time for him though.

I agree. And, not only that, but getting an A could also be the result of cheating or being teacher's pet. And, the person who gets a C just may not have the time to participate fully in a class and do the work. Maybe the person who got a C has to work a job or 2 and etc and doesn't have as much time to study as a person who gets an A does.

Being better in school doesn't neccesarily mean you are going to have a succesful life/career. Einstein didn't speak until he was 7.
Alot of those genius people, Bill Gates for instince. He didn't do well in school at all. He was more of an out-of-the-box thinker. And look where it's gotten him. But then again, getting great grades in school is always the safe route to take. You are almost gauranteed to have a great career.
Hope I helped

Depends on the person i know this woman who is super intelligent however when it come down to it she doesn't use her smarts and is totally a stupid person in life, chooses wrong paths and doesn't use her intelligence. Depending in the person but what i say street smarts beats grade smarts any day. This other girl i know is total brain however when it comes to talking to people she is a total mute no people skills. I work with people who are smart and smart worldly and i think that worldly and street smart beats having super brains. People with super brains don't know how to get on through the world and we who are those who are smart but not super intelligent are more successful in life because we have the ability to work hard and think outside the box. We bother to grow as a person and learn about life behind what we know doesn't mean we have to be extra smart though that's my opinion

grades in school mean nothing really
except in some school where people value grades so much that the teachers are willing to put down the students who don't get A's

The secret: we are taught math to not use it but to train minds to problem solve in life. Like a word problem- many steps. how to go from A to B with many steps. An A person is better prepared for life.

I completely agree. All big shots like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Henry ford were poor in school. Look at how they are now.
