Hoop Dreams - really captivating story that follows the lives of two inner-city boys for a few years as they pursue their dreams of being in the NBA.

One Day In September - very well made (Oscar-winning in fact) documentary about the Olypics tragedy during hte 1972 Munich Olypics; the most interesting thing is that the filmmaker was able to interview the one surviving Palestinian involved in carrying out the tragedy.

I watched an interesting documentary on HBO recently about former mafia hit-man Richard Kuklinski. It was called "The Iceman and the Psychiatrist." The way HBO describes it is: What makes a hit-man tick? For the first time this brutal killer speaks to a renowned psychiatrist on camera. He's behind bars for killing over 200 people and he's still ticking.

"Assassin?...That sounds so exotic... I was just a murderer."
--Richard Kulinksi, The Iceman
(I think that they misspelled his name because it isn't pronounced this way in the documentary).

Born into Brothels....about a group of children in a city in India whose mothers are prostitues. Their lives seem doomed because they are unaccepted by general society. A woman photographer gives them each a point and shoot 35mm camera and some film and tells them to photograph their lives. The results are nothing less than astounding and visually stunning. She becomes their mentor and helps them get into schools. These kids range in age from about 8-14 and she follows up on them a few years later.

I recently watched "One Day in September" on PBS and it was excellent. It concerns the Israeli Olympians murdered by Palestinian terrorists on 5 Sept. 1972 in Munich. Think it won Academy Award for best documentary the year it came out.
