Pura formalità, Una (1994)
Onoff is a famous writer who hasn't published any new books for quite some time and has become a recluse. When he is picked up by the police one stormy night, without any identification, out of breath and running madly, without clear memory of recent events, the Inspector is suspicious. Through interrogatory dialectic, the head of this lonely, isolated, broken-down police station tries to establish what has happened, by delving into the mind of his writer-hero, and clearing up a mysterious killing.
Brilliant...one of my favorite mysteries of all time. The ending is excellent. Gerard depardieu stars...

Indochine (1992)
Indochina during the 30's. One of the largest rubber-tree plantations is owned by the French colonist Eliane, a proud but imprudent woman. She lives with her father and her native adoptive daughter Camille. At an auction Eliane gets to know the young officer Jean-Baptiste; after a short affair she refuses to see him again. But in the meantime Camille falls deeply in love with the young man, so Eliane takes the necessary steps to cause a transposition of Jean-Baptiste onto a far island. Though Camille gets married to another guy she goes on a long journey throughout the country in order to find the man she loves.
Brutal look back at the devastation of french colonialism and its affect on one french family. Brutal. Catherine Deneuve stars...

The Big Blue aka Grand bleu, Le (1988)
Enzo and Jacques have known each other for a long time...childhood friends who grow up to be competitve deep sea divers...then they meet a woman...and the two are never the same again.
This movie has a mystical quality and is simply beautiful. This was where I was first introduced to Jean Reno...before La Femme Nikita...and his performance here...as usual is riveting...Director Luc Besson hits gold.

La Femme Nikita (1990)
Convicted felon Nikita, instead of going to jail, is given a new identity and trained, stylishly, as a top secret spy/assassin.
I instantly fell in love with actress Anne Parillaud who plays Nikita so well I forgot she was an actor till the end of the movie. One of my favorite french films...Jean reno puts in an appearance as the 'Cleaner'....more gold by Luc Besson...and Eric Sierra' s soundtrack is even more polished with more depth than his excellent soundtrack from the Big Blue.

Pacte des loups, Le (2001)
In 18th century France, the Chevalier de Fronsac and his native American friend Mani are sent by the King to the Gevaudan province to investigate the killings of hundreds by a mysterious beast. A period piece that really defies any attempt to classify the ease with which this tale cuts across genres...Brotherhood fo the Wolf as it is known here in america...weaves a tale of bloodbrothers who seek to stop the beast that holds the french countryside hostage amidst political malaise and intrigue...romance and adventure...red hot. Mark Dacoscos is simply superb as the Native American huntsman...and also starring Vincent Cassel (Jean Reno's partner in Crimson Rivers)

A bientot.

I saw this movie a while ago, it was kind of neat. The script had a romantic feel to it. "A Band of Outsiders".
