Is it better to be hated for who you are than to be loved for someone you aren't?

pros and cons to both...
if you are hated for who you are, then you are lonely and depressed, but are yourself.

if you are loved for who you aren''t then you are living a lie, but everyone loves you.

I personally don't think you have to choose. That's the beauty of the human personality and his/her interactions with others. We're composed of selves, not of a self, so for every person who hates you for who you are, there is a potential if not realized (yet) person who loves you for it. An individual's responsibility lies (if they would be happy) in finding those reflections of the self they need mirrored back to them, in another's eyes. If they don't get it from one person, then they can look for another, without throwing away the former relationship.

No one can ever know who you truly are. They only know what they have heard, seen, or assumed about you. People's feelings of hatred are acquired in many different ways. Jealousy,Envy, Ignorance,selfishness.etc. Point being that there will always be someone out there that will have negative feelings about you [or who ever]. There are many times when people are hated because of the things that are good about them. They could be too smart, too attractive, too rich, too nice. Or maybe they are different than those around them, that standout in a way that makes them a target. Humans have a desire to feel like they belong, may it be in there job, community, bar, social circle, etc. If you point out the ones that are different or a threat to you or your position in your group it can make you feel as if you belong or are better for your group. I would call it tribe mentality. The only person that can fairly judge you is you. If you try to please everyone, but hate your self for trying to be who are not, that be the worst thing you could do. You see, you must do those things that will build pride, respect, and love for yourself. If you love you, you won't be very concerned about those that may miss judge you. The short answer- Try to be the person that you know you should be. Your best self.

No one can ever truly be lonely unless they allow it. It is always better to be yourself. I have a total of three friend that I barely ever talk to and I have yet to get lonely... It's all in how you look at things.

Now on the other hand you can get depressed from living a lie since you will always know that your being fake.

Always be true to yourself. Be who you are, do what you want to do no matter what anyone else thinks. You are the only one who can make you happy. More often than not, you'll find that people will love the real you. Not being afraid to be yourself is a very attractive character trait.

It's better to be hated for who you are because you should always love yourself. It's no use that everyone else loves you if you're unhappy with yourself. Just ask any drug addicted celebrity.

Hated for who you are. I'd just chalk it up as the haters being mentally unstable. Never really cared what people thought of me anyway.

Whether you are as yourself or otherself, there will be somebody to hate you and love you. If you can be to "Non-self" there won't be any hatred towards you since there is no self.
