I think it is exemplifying the irrational fear sweeping through the west. The reason the captain thought these people were terrorists:
'they were noisy, had large amounts of gsm's and laptops that they were handing over to each other the whole time, and they swapped places continuously'. In other words, completely ridiculous reasons to return a plane (and dump fuel in a lake, even the environment had to suffer from the irrational fear).

Meanwhile, the 10 Indians were detained for almost a week, and their stuff (the gsm's and laptops) were taken apart and still not returned to them.

I sincerely hope the Indian people and/or government will claim damages from the company and or our government, this is going much too far!

This is no stray incident... they have ratially profiled all non whites as potential terrorist threats... you don't even have to party. You just have to look different to be suspected. Rascism is on rebound in a very big way.

"I saw 11 Arabic people arrested before I got kicked out the plane. They were treated like dogs. The way they got arrested inside the plane with everyone seeing how they got treated, I thought it was inhuman," said a passenger.

"They did not hit them but they pushed them. But they let them surely feel that they have no power. The passengers were not allowed to even look back. They were all told to look in front," recalled another.

In one of his audiotapes which was released on January 19th, 2005, Osama ben Laden had declared: "If you [Americans] are sincere in your desire for peace and security, we have answered you. And if Bush decides to carry on with his lies and oppression, then it would be useful for you to read the book 'Rogue State', which states in its introduction ... " He then goes on to quote the opening of a paragraph (which appears actually in the Foreword of the British edition only, that was later translated to Arabic), which in full reads:
"If I were the president, I could stop terrorist attacks against the United States in a few days. Permanently. I would first apologize -- very publicly and very sincerely -- to all the widows and the orphans, the impoverished and the tortured, and all the many millions of other victims of American imperialism.

I would then announce that America_s global interventions -- including the awful bombings -- have come to an end. And I would inform Israel that it is no longer the 51st state of the union but -oddly enough - a foreign country. I would then reduce the military budget by at least 90% and use the savings to pay reparations to the victims and repair the damage from the many American bombings and invasions. There would be more than enough money. Do you know what one year of the US military budget is equal to? One year. It's equal to more than $20,000 per hour for every hour since Jesus Christ was born.
"That's what I'd do on my first three days in the White House. On the fourth day, I'd be assassinated."

Bush is responsible for the death of at least 250,000 civilians (not including certain of Iraq), reveals a compilitation of scientific studies and corroborated eyewitness testimonies.

The majority of these deaths, which are in addition those normally expected from natural causes, illness and accidents, have been among women and children, documents a well-researched study, that had been released by The Lancet Medical Journal.

Why didn't they wait to party till after the plane landed? I'm sure that none of the other passengers were happy with them either. What is completely ridiculous to an arm-chair quarterback like you, is not ridiculous to the people at 40000 ft in the air. Why don't you worry alittle more about the people in your country that are killing each other off with bombs, Aborting female babies (weren't you lucky), beating wives to death when their family can't make the Dowry. Remember the proverb about he who throws the first stone? You have more than enough problems in India without worrying about the west.

I really agree that there is fear sweeping the world, alot of it contributed by the media hype. I am glad to see the actions of the pilot, can't really blame them for being safe rather then sorry. However I really agree that the judgement used was a little beyond necessary.
Look, Islamo facists want to kill non muslims, this is a legitamate threat. Keep in mind that fear when the war begins here and see how people previously anti war/death switch into raving lunatics.

Irrational? You have to be kidding me! If you give the paper or whatnot more than a passing glance everyday they seem to catch someone who did have a bomb and were determined to use it. A lot of hard work goes into catching these people. Would you rather they wait until absolutly sure and probably too late and your parents, friends and even you die? No of course not. Everybody knows whats up in travel now. Apparently these particular people were asked to stay in their seats and did not comply. If an air marshall with a badge and gun tells me to sit I will sit. So they asked for it. On another note my mother was caught up in the recent airport shutdown in London. She was to be on one of the planes targeted by the terrorists. Sure she lost cosmetics and time but I pointed out that the alternative.........

I don't give a hoot about 10 Indians' or 10 Martians' inconvenience - the flight crew and authorities did the right thing in removing and investigating the party. People had better behave themselves onboard - if I were in that same flight, I would report these stupid, insensitive passengers to the crew too.

Ask a black person what it's like to walk through Saks 5th ave. This is not new, it's just new to a group other than blacks. African Americans are harrassed, profiled, detained and otherwise inconvenienced in the name of "public safety" every day of every month of every year!

Partying, exchanging seats and operating electronic devices while inflight are not allowed. Nevertheless, the Indian passengers must only be considered as unruly passengers and not to be branded as terrorists.

Are you serious? And if they were terrorists? Yeah sure, let's put hundreds of people in harms way just for the sake of ten people who are acting inappropriately on a plane. For pete's sake, it is a security measure...we've already learned the hard way that we need to be better safe than sorry! Get a clue already, and if you don't like the policies, find another country honey, we don't need you here, we have enough problems.

I thought they were Muslim-Americans, from Jordan? Or am I wrong? Either way, our government is exercising racial profiling , whether they like to admit it or not.
