what is the major difference and which one is better???

Gsm is better for international tmobile and cingular are gsm
Cdma is mostly used here in the U.S. it is older and used more.
the advantage of GSM is that you can take your phone to almost any country and buy a new SIM card for it and get a prepaid service very easily. CDMA does not use SIM cards even though they are more widley accepted over teh globe.

GSM and CDMA- both are digital technologies but the former is widely deployed and more users use GSM. However cdma uses what is known as spread spectrum technology,and is more efficient in using the spectrum and hence can pack more subscribers than GSM for same bandwidth. It also offers better data speeds and hence is closer to 3G than plain gsm. However cdma handsets are limited in choice and are more expensive. GSM scores on this point well above cdma.

GSM uses SIM CDMA doesnot. This is wat i kno :)
