All Samara ever wanted was to be heard. She wanted someone to witness her pain. And when they did not get it...those that watched the video tape...and were too stupid or frightened to put the clues on the video tape... together...she killed them. The reporter was the only one to put the clues together...decipher the visual riddle...hear her...and witness her pain. Which is why she did not kill the reporter...or her son...what she wanted was an audience and thanks to the reporter...she got it.
She killed to be heard...and once she had been heard...her pain witnessed...she could now start to restage the pain and agony of her death...and share that pain for all eternity...with every one who saw that tape...

The reason why she kills was becos the director told her to do so....
basically they have no reason or rhyme all these horror flicks the more deaths and more gore the better the directors feel
this particular movie was very highly recommended to me and i love to watch horror flicks in the confines of my lush living room with the AC full blast... late at nights with all lights turned off...
try as i might, i never got friegtened.... a few scenes the sound effects actually did stun me but there was hardly anything to fear about the movie.... the spoof about the ring which was released as scary movie part 3 was funny though......

her motive was to get revenge on her parents but after they died and other people starting watching the tape she took revenge on them because they would watch what is happening to her so to make her suffering less painful she wold make other peoples lives hell and kill them to destroy there family. also it because she never had a real family so she believed that no one should have a happy family

Because her mother drowned her. Am I the only one who sees that the ring is a chain letter on video. You remember those, "if you don't send this to 12 people you'll die."

well its not Samaras fault some "evil" spirit goes inside of her. and the "Evil" spirit wants a mom. and u hav to kill the evil spirit by sinking it in the water. and samaras mommy knew that her baby was possessed so she tryed to sink the baby but some Nuns stopped her so the evil spirit was still inthe baby. and the baby grew up. and the evil spirit goes and posses childeren cuz it wants a mommy..

the scariest killers have no motive. Hannibal Lecter, Charles Manson..etc.
Humans are normally logical, so causeless violent action is disturbing.

im not sure... all i remember from the ring was if u watch a video tape u die in 7 days... n the ring2 i never got either... i didnt even find either of them scary
