The most appropriate and accurate method for obtaining a true core temperature on an infant is rectal. The use of the axilla of the infant will result in readings that can be influenced by a myriad of environmental factors. The infant will not have any adverse effects if the temperature is obtained with a rectal thermometer. Do not subsequently use the same thermometer orally as the transfer of bacteria could result in a severe infection.

how old is the baby...Rectal is the best to get the true temp. I can not get my 14 month old to hold still for a under the arm temp. I think that it is 2 degrees but I could be wrong....try rectal...??

the way that i remember is its good under the arm so add one, its bad in the but so take it away. so under the arm plus one and in the but minus one!

i don't know i have kids and i never added the degrees the doctors never told me to do that i guess just ask the pediatrician cause i am not sure about that.

there's no need to add anything. just tell the doctor how you took it. there's not a lot of difference.
