Pressure, nerves, intensity... might all be factors initially, but the main reason is that the talent gap between AAA and the majors is much wider than any other level of organized baseball. Guys who play outstanding in AAA but bomb in the majors are typically called Four-A guys.

A pitcher in AAA with above average stuff can blow away the bottom part of almost any AAA lineup, because they're pitching against guys that have very little chance of ever cracking a major league lineup. Add to that the fact that most minor leaguers tend to be aggressive hitters (because you have to post numbers to get called up to The Show), and a Four-A guy can put up great numbers.

Now, consider what happens when he gets called up to the majors. The worst player in the major league lineup is on par with (or better) than most AAA players, and the rest of the lineup isn't much better. A 98 mph fastball is a hittable pitch, and most major leaguers aren't in the habit of swinging at bad pitches.

It's much the same for hitters. The ones who can't hit breaking pitches are weeded out in Double-A, but in the majors, everyone has breaking pitches and they can all throw them for strikes. Everyone has a moving fastball they can locate, and everyone mixes pitches well. And unless a team is already out of the hunt, at-bats for the new guy are hard to come by. You try to limit a young pitcher's innings, but you want the opposite with a young hitter.

That was wordy, but what it comes down to is the talent level disparity.

Part of the reason is there are a few AAA teams that play in the P.C.L.,where the air is thinner, therefore causing the ball to travel farther, therefore inflating stats.

They have to face intimidating pitchers such as Roger Clemens, Johan Santana, Pedro Martinez. Just too name a few. But other than that I'm not sure maybe it's the pressure?

The competion level is just higher. The best pitchers, hitters, fielders are a that level and no quarter will be given to a rookie.
