What do you do when people ask you about scars? I did about 2 years ago and its getting really annoying, and I don't want to tell, but I don't want to say something stupid like "I don't rememer".

The most obvious ones are on the back of my arm, I scratched them when I was in the hospital because there wasn't anything to use. It kind of looks like a burn or something, its pretty bad

Your answer can depend on where they are on you. many people don't understand cutting and it's not an easily approachable subject when getting to know somone.

what are the cuts like? where?

I hope things are better with you now. (former cutter here)

okay, from the additional details you just gave:

I'd say it's a burn then, if it could pass as one. especially if it looks pretty bad, if you say "it's a burn" and they ask "what happened?" and you say "I really don't want to talk about it." -if they press the issue, they're inconsiderate people anyway who shouldn't be prying into someone else's (obviously painful) business, and perhaps you should tell them so.

but those people are out there. I had a guy once ask me all kinds of questions about how my sister died (suicide) and the way he went about it with his morbid curiosity made me want to punch him in the face. I'm not normally a violent person. but I had to verbally make very clear that it was an issue he should not press, because I did not wish to discuss it in such a manner.

My scars are mostly not in publicly viewed areas and those that are are not very noticeable or recognizeable. My response if anyone asks, which I think would transfer to a more obvious situation, is to simply say "I've been through a hell of a lot of stuff." and I give them a pained look that just dares them to ask. I've only ever had one person ask and that was my lover at the time who saw a fresh mark.

Depends on who is asking. When a stranger feels the need to question the many hash marks on my forearm I usually just sigh and say "Long Story"; some people have pushed the issue so I have pushed the envelope by concocting a huge, fairly tragic story. Most people leave the subject alone once they realize that you don't want too talk about it with them.
