Define what you mean by "reality".
There are several movies named "King Kong".
There were props made for at least the first two; those props are "real" (though not living apes).
There could be no real ape as big as King Kong; bone and muscle are not strong enough to support anything as tall and skinny (relatively) as an ape at that physical size.
(FYI: This isn't an anthropology question. Anthropology has to do with people, not apes - even great apes.)

Hardly . . . the "ape" used for King Kong wsn't even terribly realistic. Gorillas are ground-dwellers, not tree-dwellers, so the likelihood of any size gorilla being able to climb a building is minimal.
And I'd like to correct the individual who stated anthropology is only about people, not about apes. Primateologists (the folks who study apes, monkeys, prosimians, etc.) usually major in physical anthropology.
