Why are people here so judgemental (details)?

Everyone seems to be so insulting here. I've seen people get frustrated about some of the answers they've gotten and then people get even more insulting instead of thinking about the fact that the person behind the screen actually has feelings. If someone asks a question that seems angry shouldn't we maybe think about the fact that the person has other problems and is just letting off some steam? If someone is angry and they're not insulting any one person in particular I don't see the harm in letting them get something off their chest.
And I'm not talking about these really vulgar questions, I'm talking about someone that is a little annoyed and then people go and make it worse by saying something like 'you're an idiot, use spell check'.
Surely insulting people further isn't going to help anyone.

Personally, I try to avoid answering a question that seems to go beyond mere frustrated anger since most of those ARE ask by nitwits just wanting the attention. If it is a valid question, with valid reasons for the anger, I do my best to offer non-judgmental advice, but to be fair and honest, certain "angry" questions just get to me, like those that are vulgar and abusive, still 98% of the time I just report them. Just remember this is MY personal code of ethics, I can't speak for those who seem to enjoy hurting others and God knows I'll NEVER understand them. I have ask only one question in this forum and some of the answers I received were more than enough to stop me from EVER asking another.

As others have brought up, this whole illusion of being "anonymous" or of being "invisible" on the internet isn't the healthiest thing for a lot of people...

In addition to that, I'd like to add that anyone who has been online for at least a few years is going to be a bit harsh and cynical, because of *trolls*. You know, you've likely heard of these people, there are some folks who are ONLY online it seems, to be mean, vicious and insulting to people, and to push things to see what they can get away with.

And online, especially on Yahoo, they get away with *LOTS*.

Which makes a lot of us non-trollish people rather cynical and pissy towards anyone who shows *any* attitude at all, you know?

Because really, in text like this, how do you tell the difference between someone who is just having a bad day or hurt feelings....and the Next Edna, where the person is *a paid-for* nuisance? Really, how do you tell?

So yeah, some folks are trolls....and some others, while they aren't trolls, have become mean and hardened to protect themselves *from the trolls*, mea culpa....

Why are you being so judgemental? People are each entitled to their own opinions, and many of us spend or professional lives tiptoeing around the feelings of others, I say if you don't want to get your head chopped off once in awhile then you should NEVER stick it out, and in many cases, if they can't take the criticisms them they should not put their opinions out for others to criticize. That's all. I come here to give reasonable answers, I don't have to show my credentials here, I don't have to kiss anyone's backside, and I don't think anyone should be able to mandate how others may choose to answer some of these questions, now if you came into my office, and I knew I was getting paid to "work" with you, then I would do my job as best I could. That is the difference between some answer thing at Yahoo and going to a professional person, the difference between FREE advice, and advice that you pay for. I say, when you put your business out on the Internet, and you get stupid answers, then you asked for it! You can't expect these people to be held the the same standards as someone with a Master's Degree! Pay me, if you want me to tiptoe, some of my answers are insulting here, and I often do not mince words, but guess what, I must be doing something right because I am still here and I have not gotten any violations, and I try to be honest even if I cannot force myself to be nice when I think the question may be lame...I spend my life giving evaluations and being evaluated myself. I come here to try to be helpful, but also to have some fun. some of the people who come on here to ask questions need to see a professional therapist instead of asking random strangers for advice on serious matters.

So please can we skip the evaluations, if you put something out on front street and you do not get all the tea and sympathy or hand patting that you think you should have, then you know you brought your problems to the WRONG place, and if you need that kind of nurturing, then go somewhere and speak in private with someone who will sit and listen to you cry, and tell you that it's all going to be just fine if you have some regular therapy and take your medications...and NOT to worry...In these circumstances how does anyone know if the questions are even serious? Some of them seem so peculiar, that you NEVER know if the person asking the question is being honest!

Good luck, I think the simple little ratings thing on the side is not that much of a good idea, if you work, you spend your life being assessed, and evaluated. Good luck with you campaign to make people nicer or more sympathetic, this is a webpage for FREE advice, you get what you pay for sometimes. :-(

It's the anonymity. Invisible people are much harsher answering another invisible person on a keyboard than they ever would be in person. Everyone's here because they get something out of it. Some people just want to let off steam, like you said. The rude answers aren't nice to get but it's not worth it to take them personally.

I think people don't care. The chances of any one of us actually meeting face to face is very slim. So people think they can say what ever and it's not going to effect anyone. I bet some of these rude answers wouldn't be said in front of the persons mother.

Those are the people who only care about the points and not the person. They are rude and need to hang out somewhere else.

i was all pissed off that i couldnt get something and everyone immediantly called me spoiled adn wouldnt stop for 3 questions!

even though i clearly stated if my parents dont get it i save all my money till i get it.

my friends answered to my defense and i picked them as best answer cause they didnt piss me off even more to the point i was crying!
