start by making piles.
one for clothes (or two for clothes, clean and dirty)
one for books and music
one for trash
one for stuff to give away--be ruthless, do you really need to keep the fuzzy green elephant you got in third grade?
etc.

Once you've sorted all your stuff into the piles, throw away the trash, haul the give aways out to the car, and put everything else where it belongs.

If you make the piles of trash and stuff to give away bigger than the other piles, your room will much easier to keep clean

throw everything that is not where you want it to be (aka out of place) onto your bed. Then vacuum your room, wipe the furniture etc. Then pick up one item from your bed and place it where you want it to be (and stay!). If you cant find a spot for it there are these options:

*Sell (on ebay or elsewhere)
*Give (to a friend or to goodwill)
*Throw it into the trash
*Stick it in a huge box (which will later be stowed under the bed, or thrown into the garage, attic or basement)

In order to keep your room clean:
*Put things back where they came from when you're done with them.
*Take a picture of your clean room and stick it on your door. That way you'll remember the nice clean room, which might motivate you to keep it clean.
*Dont take drinks and/or plates with food into your room

And getting some cool new furniture to put stuff away in usually helps too :)

clean out your closet as well I bought these storage containers that look like a file cabinet and just separated my things into categories and put the whole cabinet in the closet but I use my dresser for my clothes I put my gigantic stereo in my closet because my room is only 8ft. by 8ft. In my closet I also put my hamper of dirty clothes and another full of my shoes. I have a huge dresser that fits all of my clothes and I have a draw that I wasn't using so all of my makeup, hair products and perfumes are in that draw so the top of my dresser is fairly clean and neat except for a few knickknacks and a lamp. I have a small DVD cabinet for my movies and some Cd's and books. My TV cabinet also has storage. I have my son's toy chest in my room full of his toys because I share my room. I also found stack-able shelving for my room which worked out nicely and a futon is perfect to get extra room during the day and it also looks nice if you have friends over.

Set aside some time to clean it, clean it good, then keep it up. When you use something put it back where you got it from. I know right now it is so messy it's overwelming. Best advice make a list and start with that or just jump right into it, once it's done you will feel so much better.

Well, try this method. Make ANY chores an adventure. Like, killing spiders in your attic. Imagine you are a space warrior killing aliens from a different planet, or something like that. Organizing things can be tough, so try to draw up a timetable, so you can know when to eat, study, sleep, stuff like that. Paste the timetable at your mirror. Why? Because you will be looking at your mirror every day, and you could see what you are supposed to do. :)

I keep a hamper behind my door and i have about 4 baskets around my room for papers, do dads i have, just random stuff i dont want to put away, maybe even one for putting clothes away later. But every once and a while you have to clean them out or else they are pointless.

The key is to have a home for all of your stuff. You can't put something away if it has nowhere to go. Make a system that works with your laziness. I bet you have too much stuff. Donate or sell it.

Make sure you have a hamper close to your door so that you can dump your clothes in it whenever you walk in or out. Buy plastic tubs to store things under your bed that you don't use regularly.
