Actually, yes, I have.

When I was in my first year of college, I lived at home with my mother. She went out of town for about 4 weeks, and we partied a lot at my house while she was gone. One Friday, we got started really early in the afternoon, around 1:00 p.m. and goofed off all day and into the next morning. When I finally woke up very early in the evening on Saturday, my purse was there, but my wallet with my ID, credit cards, checkbook, and all the cash I had, plus the cash my Mom had left me for groceries, was gone. My car keys were missing too. I was pretty bummed. We had eaten almost everything in the house, and I had no money, no way to get money, no way to procure food, and no means of transportation. She had a spare set of keys to my car, but I didn't know where they were, and I wasn't about to call her and explain why I couldn't find my own.

That was a crappy weekend, mainly memorable for being hungry for something good to eat, but being stuck with cold cereal. I had to skip classes on Monday because I still couldn't find my stuff. I had spent all of Sunday tearing the house apart and talking to my friends, but there was no sign of the missing items, and no one had any ideas. Late Monday night, I realized I would have to call her the next day and find out about the keys. I still didn't know what the heck I was going to do about money, though.

That night, I went down to the deep freezer in our basement to see if there were any TV dinners down there, as I was dying for something other than cereal. I found a neatly wrapped foil package in the back of the freezer, and all my stuff was in it. I suddenly realized what had happened.

I had spent all of Friday in and out of the refrigerator, getting food for us (which might give you some clue about the mechanics of just how we got wasted). When my friends were leaving, one of them asked if she should stay, or if I would be alright alone. I said I would be fine. She told me to lock all the doors and stay safe. I guess I really took her advice to heart. I decided to make sure my valuables were safe, as well. Where do you put food when you want it to stay safe for later? That's right!

So my advice to you, is CHECK THE FREEZER!!!

When I was still getting wasted, I didn't have debit and credit cards. My daughter just told me the other day, " mom I never thought I'd see the day when we could drive up to one of these machines and get money like normal people do!"
