I'd like to go to either Yale or Columbia as an English major. I need help improving my stats, any help would be great.
-I'll have taken about 11 AP courses by senior year (including foreign language and two cores on the internet). I'm ranked 1st out of 550, and I hope to earn 3 academic letters in high school.
-I joined J.V Tennis (which means I'll be in it for 2 years during high school), have been in Key Club as Secretary for 2 years (hopefully Vice Pres. the 3rd year), newspaper columnist at school for 2 years, and National Honor Society for 2 years.
-If it helps: I was born in Seattle, and I don't have much travel experience except for up and down the west coast. My parents are from the Middle East, so I'm considered Caucasian.
-Extra: I learned to speak English only about two years after I learned Farsi. I know these two languages, and my AP exam will hopefully prove me as fluent in Spanish. My community service hours are about 25 by semester, but even with all this, I haven’t really done anything special over the summer.

I know this was long, but do you have ANY suggestions? Thanks!

Wow. um...like the other person say, talk to your guidance counselor and take the SAT or ACT test. Oh! don't forget to write a kick-*** personal statement. Give them the best sense of who you are..colleges like that. Also, consider a back up plan, just in case you don't into the school of your choice.

I have a question for you: have you considered in applying for early decision or early action?

Early decision allows you to apply to only one school. If you decided to do this option, you MUST decide where you REALLY WANT TO GO YALE OR COLUMBIA. One you get accept it, you must agree to attend there and pull out your application from other schools that you are applying to. So, it is essential for you to visit the college campus and find out what you really like about yale and columbia. Early decision helps you get into college early without the worry. The deadline is like november so you better start working on the essay, resume and getting letters of recommendation.

Early Action: you can apply up to 7 schools, if not mistaken. the deadline is sometime in November, check with the colleges. This one, you get your decision early but you don't have to make your decision of where you wanna go until may.

I'm a volunteer college advisor in my community. So if you need any other advice about college..just let me know. Email if you want.

Peace, Dear

You might want to try to do a summer program next year. Oxford has a great summer program for high school students. I know people who went that had a 2.2 high school gpa. All you need is the money to do it. It looks good on an application. I would also start your SAT and ACT asap. On the SAT's at least you'll have pleanty of time to up your score if you need to. Don't worry if you get wait-listed. LOTS of people get wait-listed. Rumor is because they need to save room for children of alumni. If your parents went to yale or columbia you'd have an even better shot.
Besides those very small things, you sound like you are on the right track. Get things started early. Make sure they know you are interested!!

Wow...when did you sleep? What is your native language. I would assume that being born in Seattle it would be English,

Have you written any short stories, or poems that may have been published in your school paper, or maybe done reviews on books.

As an English major, I am not sure what employment you would be working towards---writer, journalist, teacher..I would say look toward some activity in the direction you feel you would like to go for employment.

First off, your academic standing is stellar, and congrats on your rank as first in your class. The only suggestion I have is that you should do more community service and stick with one or two organizations for the duration of your senior year. In addition, don't volunteer as part of a school club, but as a part of a community organization. I hope this helps.

Talk to your high school counselor. Also call or visit the sites of the schools you would like to go to and find out. Even better contact and talk to someone that the school you would like to attend and let them know why you want to go there. But I think you have quite a resume so far the only thing you need to do is to have SAT and ACT scores that will help you qualify for that school. Also, you will need to keep a high g.p.a.
