God Helps Them Who Help Themselves
Don't look to others to do things for you. If other people's bad choices affect you negatively - keep those people out of your life and do the best YOU can do to be the best person YOU can be!

I've found myself in some pretty horrible situations from which I thought there was no way out: I was homeless for some time, had an abusive boyfriend, was cheated by family and friends, and I just couldn't get it together, then one day after realizing that there was no one in the world for me, I stopped fighting and I put my life in Jesus' hands and ever since then everything changed. Now, instead of being selfish and thinking only of myself, I try to help those who have nobody in their lives to care for them. I give my time away to crisis victims and together we find ways to solve their problems. So the valuable lesson that I learn is that it takes one person to change one's life...I didn't have that one person, but I'd be damned if I don't help others. I will be that one person who's gonna be there for them.

Wow, we sure have a lot of resident philosophers on Yahoo! Answers!!!
First of all, before I say this (all you trigger-happy raters out there that give thumbs-downs), I actually am serious, not just blowing steam or being trying to be smart.
So, 'What I have learned in Life':
The human nature is terribly flawed. The average person isn't worth sh** to the people around them.
All of society, over the past thousands of years, has been built up with one goal in mind: to keep us from tearing each other apart. Our most advanced system of government, democracy, is all about providing checks and balances to prevent people from having the power to do whatever they want-- because we know that it sure wouldn't be what was altruistic. We have the choice to elect anyone out of our entire race (and don't blame politicians, they're part of us and part of our system), and we still can't find a single individual that we trust to wield power wisely.
Sorry folks, if you want encouragement, if you want optimism, heck, even if you just want innovation (as a rule): don't bother looking to the human race. The only place you have a chance to find it, is in God, and in yourself.

Moral fortitude. Patience, understanding for all as well as forgiveness. If one can truly do to others, as you want them to do to you, I believe, this is the most important lesson that can be learned. But in order to live by this simple but difficult rule, you need to understand why it is, that you need to life by it.

My most important lifes lesson is that one should not spend their time worrying about dying. One should be more concerned with not living.

Be not too hard on others because life can be hard enough sometimes without my making it worse, cut those that need it a break but kick the lazy in the ***. Be true to your dreams.

I know that I have a lot more to learn but so far I believe that honesty is so important in everyday life.

Anything done not of the wisdom of the Bible is either worthless and/or detrimental. Such as 'Be equally yoked' when choosing a marriage partner, don't be on different grounds.

Think twice before saying something in anger. Chances are you will regret it and no matter how many times you say you are sorry, the other person will never be able to forget what you said.
