Sometimes I am in the mood for rock, and sometimes love ballads. And yet sometimes, I am just in a mood for silence. So if rock music and love ballads are a form of melody, I think silence is too.

Simon and Grafunkle sure created one. http://lyrics.astraweb.com/display/77/simon_and_garfunkel..best_of_simon_and_garfunkel..the_sound_of_silence.html

Since silence is the lack of any sound and a melody is a string of musical sounds then silence cannot have a melody, just as a melody isn't a string of silence.

But, if you use the full definition of melody which is "is a series of linear events or a succession" then the melody of silence could be a pattern of colored lights. Therefore the melody of silence can be done with blinking lights and in Morse Code it is:
short-short-short, short-short, short-long-short-short, short, long-short, long-short-long-short, short.

Ask a smart-aleck question, and get a smart-aleck answer.

Sorry Temple if The melody of silence is God then that means there isn't a god, isn't logic a bit_h.

Oh and IthinkFrampt... after the world ends there isn't silence, just no one around to hear it. After all if a tree falls in the woods it still makes a sound, even if no one hears it. Of course the actual boom of the explosion can't be transmitted except through a medium like Earth, Water or Air; therefore the sound will be a short one.

Harini s hearing the lub of your heart isn't silence.

Where is melody in continuous sound. Can you enjoy a continuous BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZ?????????It is the right mix of sound and silence makes melody. The issue is we usually do not give attention to the gap(silence) between sounds.....

Silence is the canvass....the base. Sound is the picture in it. Where can a picture exist without a canvass?

In philosophy there is no such thing like silence. Even if outside you can`t hear anything... you`ll still hear you heart beat. So the sound of silence is the sound of your heart beating.

And believe me... I`m taking phisolopshy at U of T. It was the first question in my Philly class in High School...

Yes.
I have to agree with Anne Morrow Lindberg who said, "A note of music gains significance from the silence on either side."
Without silence, music degenerates into noise. It is the silence which distinguishes it, and makes it beautiful and melodius. Silence creates harmony.

Shhhh. ... the sound.. of silence.
You know, the answer is YES.
I don't know about you, but I'm subjected to (just as most people in this world) to a near.... never-ending barrage of noise, nuisances that I believe human beings as well as other living things should not have to be subject to.

The sound of silence does have It's own melody.
The key definition is of the word itself.

Silence to you may be utter, and complete.
For instance... deafness!
I prefer to think of silence as something else...

The sound of a bird as you awake in a location you are
unaccustomed to, the gentle lapping of the waves as they touch the sand...
In other words, the sounds of nature...
these may be your "definition" of the sounds of silence.
The "meaning" and definition is relative.

Silence to me is the absence of distraction, and annoyance.

The answer to your question concerning silence, and
melody is Yes.

Silence does have It's own melody...
And It is precious to all of us.
We just need to slow down....
and recognize It.
Good question... for a world in need of "silence".
Thank you!!!

For me there is no such thing as silence. There is always something making a noise. Outside or in my head, it doesnt matter.

There is no such thing as silence

The voice within never sleeps, and neither does nature -we create our own music and when in tune we hear the voice of love, the song of life is found in love

A) depends on what you hear in your head-what you hear in your head isnt really noise...well, for me there is always a bit of buzzing in there

B) there is no such thing as complete silence...you still hear that ringing in your ears.
